Part 1: An Epic Finale for the VD Series Finale! (My 8x16 Thoughts)

Alright so here is a jotted recap of the episode with my initial thoughts included throughout and after the episode. I do it this way because my memory sucks when it comes to recalling things that don't revolve around my OTP for the series.
SEASON 8

Synopsis: OLD FRIENDS - With the fate of Mystic Falls at stake, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) must fight their greatest enemy for one last battle.
The special feature before the finale had me on the brink of tears! So many trips down memory lane!
Previously on the Vampire Diaries:
- Maxwell Bell and its hellfire
- Stefan and Caroline are married
- Twins siphon from Bonnie
- Cade is killed
- Katherine is the new ruler of Hell
- Kelly returns with words of Katherine's plan...and Vickie ringing the Bell
- Bonnie collapses from Vickie ringing the Bell
NOW:
House
- Stefan works on CPR for Bonnie
- Caroline rushes in
- Stefan recaps for Caroline
- Caroline feeds her blood to Bonnie
- Stefan works on getting Bonnie's heard to start
Woods
- Bonnie finds herself in the woods
- Bonnie finds Elena on a bed
- Elena slowly wakes up
- "Bonnie?" -Elena
- "Elena..." -Bonnie
- Elena and Bonnie rush to hug each other
- "I never thought I'd see you again." -Bonnie
- Elena pulls back at the realization
- Elena doesn't want Bonnie to die
- "You can't die...not yet!" -Elena
- Bonnie admits she's ready to die
- Enzo interrupts
- Enzo isn't ready for Bonnie to die just yet
- "Sorry love but it's not your time." -Enzo
- Enzo takes Bonnie's hand and whisks her away
House
- Bonnie wakes up with a gasp
- Caroline rushes to hug Bonnie
- Bonnie tells Stefan that she saw Elena
- "I saw her. I saw Elena." -Bonnie
- Stefan is stunned
TITLE CARD
Church Tower
- Vickie rings the Maxwell Bell
- Damon interrupts
- Damon throws Vickie out the window
- Vickie lands hard on the concrete
- Matt rushes in
- Matt wonders where Vickie is
- Damon points to the broken window
- Matt is outraged
- Damon isn't having the patience
- "She went splat." -Damon
- "You threw her out the window?!" -Matt
- Vickie walks back up
- Damon intercepts Vickie and kills her again
- Matt is outraged
- Damon tells Matt to hold on...he's testing a theory
- Vickie wakes up moments later
- Damon just confirmed that anyone from Hell can't be killed permanently
- Damon tells Matt to stop Vickie
- "The fate of Mystic Falls is in the hands of you and your family." -Damon
- Damon leaves
- Matt tries to talk to Vickie
- Vickie refuses to go back to Hell
- Katherine promised an afterlife of nothing if she completed her side of the plan
- Vickie reveals that she has no choice but to ring the Maxwell Bell every 5 minutes
Outside
- Damon plans with Stefan and Caroline
- Matt walks out while dialing his phone
- Caroline calls out to Matt
- Matt completes his call to evacuate the town
- The Salvatores (Caroline included now) are stunned
WEBCLIP #1 -- Boarding House
- Stefan & Damon rush inside
- Stefan thinks there has to be another way
- Damon is pissed that Katherine won
- Stefan: "There's gotta be something we're missing."
- Damon: "Nope. Katherine won. She played the long game and finally beat us."
- Stefan & Damon stop short when they see Elena's coffin empty
- Stefan remembers Bonnie's words from earlier
- Stefan: "Earlier, Bonnie's heart stopped... She said she saw Elena."
- Elena walks out into the open in a daze
- Elena is stunned to see Damon (he's the same with her)
- Elena: "Damon?"
- Damon: "Elena?"
- Damon tries to go to Elena
- Elena pulls back and wonders about Bonnie
- The Salvatores assure Elena that Bonnie is okay
- "You're both okay." -Damon
- "I'm awake?" -Elena
- "You're awake." -Damon
- Damon rushes to hug Elena
- Damon notices something is off and puts Elena down
- Katherine is disguised as Elena
- "No, no, no, no." -Damon
- "Rude." -Katherine
- "You've got to be kidding me. Katherine." -Stefan
- "Hello brothers." -Katherine
- So where is the real Elena?
- I miss that switch we see in Nina when it's one doppelganger impersonating the other.
COMMERICAL
Boarding House
- Katherine pours herself a drink
- Damon and Stefan want to know where Elena is
- Katherine teases them
- "That's for me to know and for you to dot, dot, dot." -Katherine
- HEY! That's Damon's line!
- Katherine reveals that Cade has been under her control since she entered Hell
- Cade wanted the Salvatores because Katherine wanted them-
- "It's been a hoot watching you take on the devil. Especially considering I've had
- him wrapped around my finger since the minute I stepped into Hell." -Katherine
- Katherine reveals that Mystic Falls will be covered in Hellfire when the clock strikes 10pm
- Katherine will have the town burn and a trapped Elena as well
- Stefan stabs Katherine in the shoulder with her Ashen Dagger
- Katherine falls unconscious
- "Well that shut her up." -Damon
- Stefan notes that they don't have long until 10pm
Town Square
- Matt oversees evacuation
- Grandpa from 1x05 makes a cameo!!!
- Peter is found
- Peter wonders what's wrong
- Matt reveals that Vickie is back to ring the Maxwell Bell
Forbes' House
- Caroline packs up
- Caroline gets updated by Stefan through a call
- Alaric returns
- Bonnie and the Twins are in the car
- Caroline tells Alaric to leave without her
- Caroline needs to help Stefan find Elena
- Alaric refuses to leave Caroline behind...for the twins
- Caroline promises she'll return to them
- Alaric doesn't want the twins to grow up without a mother
School
- Stefan finds Elena in the boiler room
- Stefan carries Elena but he's blocked by a barrier spell
- "Damn it." -Stefan
- The Maxwell Bell rings again
COMMERICAL
Cemetery
- Damon gets a call from Stefan
- Damon knows that Elena is trapped within the barrier spell
- Stefan can escape the barrier spell
- Stefan worries for Elena
- Damon tries to find an answer
- Katherine interrupts
- Katherine comments on the Ashen Dagger not completely killing her
- "It sends me to Hell but it can't keep me there." -Katherine
- Why?
- Katherine gloats about trapping Elena thanks to Kai's spell
- "Kai Parker was kind enough to set that trap for me...and if I'm not mistaken, he's forever indisposed." -Katherine
- Katherine gloats about destroying the town
- Damon tells Katherine the him and Stefan will always choose Elena over Katherine
- Katherine reminds Damon that Elena will always pick Stefan
- Damon questions why Katherine is so sure
- Katherine admits that she'd pick Stefan over Damon
- "Stefan is the better man." -Katherine
- Damon stabs Katherine with the Ashen Dagger
- Katherine collapses
- So why doesn't her Ashen Dagger kill Katherine like Cade's killed him?
School / Road
- Phone call between Caroline (+ Stefan) and Bonnie (+ Alaric)
- Caroline tells them that Kai spelled the barrier spell
- Bonnie reports that they are too far gone to return in time
- Stefan knows that Damon won't leave without Elena
- Alaric tells Caroline to take the tunnels out of town...it's faster
- Bonnie looks to Alaric
- Phone call ends
- Stefan decides that he needs to talk to Damon
- Caroline is conflicted
- Caroline wants to stay with Stefan but she promised Alaric that she wouldn't risk herself
- "I made a promise to Ric, I wouldn't risk the girls growing up without a mother." -Caroline
- Stefan tells Caroline to go be with the twins
- "Family first." -Stefan
- "We're a family now." -Caroline
- Caroline refuses to leave Stefan
- Stefan wants Caroline to get to safety but he needs to save Damon
- "He's my brother." -Stefan
- Final goodbyes are shared
- "I love you so much." -Stefan
- "I love you too." -Caroline
- Stefan and Caroline kiss
- Caroline rushes out to take the tunnels
