A Trip Down Memory Lane on VD! (My 8x10 Thoughts)
If you haven't heard, I got a tumblr account so many gifs I used here, I had reblogged them onto my tumblr since I have no clue how to make one!
Alright so here is a jotted recap of the episode with my initial thoughts included throughout and after the episode. I do it this way because my memory sucks when it comes to recalling things that don't revolve around my OTP for the series.

Synopsis: THE RINGING OF THE BELL - Sybil (guest star Nathalie Kelley) enacts revenge on Damon (Ian Somerhalder) by putting him in a catatonic state. Caroline (Candice King) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) enter Damon’s mind and run into familiar faces from the past, only to discover Stefan (Paul Wesley) is the key to Damon’s fate. It’s a race against time for the bell as both Sybil and her sister Seline (Kristen Gutoskie) jockey for its control. Zach Roerig (Matt) also stars.
I can't wait to see which familiar faces we'll see in Damon's mind!!!

- Bonnie admits that she's jogging to clear her head
- Caroline wonders what is bothering Bonnie
- Bonnie needs some advice about Enzo
- Bonnie wonders about breakfast together
- Caroline: "I’m the last person you should be asking for relationship advice."
- Caroline blames herself for Stefan turning Violet Fell into a vampire
- Bonnie enters the boarding house
- Bonnie is determined to bring breakfast to Caroline
- Bonnie: "Breakfast in bed it is. How do you like your eggs?"
- Caroline: "Are you really here right now?"
- Bonnie finds Damon frozen in the living room
- Bonnie fails to grab Damon's attention
- Bonnie: "Damon?"
- Caroline: "Wait, Damon is here too?"
- Bonnie tells Caroline to get down to Damon immediately
TITLE CARD
Mystic Grill
- Dead bodies everywhere
- Violet Fell pleads for her victims to wake up
- Violet is messy with blood
- Stefan walks in
- Violet is furious with Stefan for turning her
- Stefan blames his situation on Damon
- Violet doesn't like what she's done
- "Life isn't far Violet." -Stefan
- Stefan claims that Violet made her choice to kill
- Stefan tells Violet that she's perfect for Cade
- Stefan kills Violet
Boarding House
- Caroline thinks Damon's situation is because of Sybil
- Caroline takes Bonnie's hand and ventures inside Damon's head
- Caroline sees Damon surrounded in fire as he screams
- Caroline and Bonnie are stunned and pushed out of Damon's mind
- Caroline hears a humming
- Caroline finds Sybil in the basement cellar
- Sybil admits that she forced Damon's humanity back on
- Sybil wants her freedom...then she'll help Damon
- Bonnie refuses
- Sybil pleads her case
- Caroline wonders what Sybil wants in exchange for helping Damon
Mystic Grill
- Matt arrives to the crime scene
- Violet Fell is dead
- It's the day after the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant
- Matt gets a call from Caroline
- Caroline wants the Charter Bell for Sybil so they can help Damon
- Matt refuses
- Matt reports that Violet Fell is dead
- Caroline is stunned and apologetic
- Matt doesn't want to help the Salvatores
- Caroline begs Matt for his help for her
Boarding House
- Sybil examines Damon
- Damon is surrounded by fire
- Sybil knows that Damon thinks he's in Hell (because he deserves it)
- Sybil explains that she can get inside to Damon's subconscience
- Caroline and Bonnie are meant to go in Damon's head and retrieve him
Damon's Mind
- Caroline and Bonnie see themselves outside the Boarding House
- Henry greets them as the conceirge of the Salvatore Boarding House (max occupants)
- Familiar Face #1 = Henry
- Caroline and Bonnie ask about Damon
- Henry points to the painting for Soldier Damon (a hero from the war)
- The ladies ask about Damon again
- Henry tells the ladies to leave
Boarding House
- Caroline and Bonnie are pushed out of Damon's head
- Sybil doesn't understand what happened...Damon should be inside his head
- Stefan interrupts and offers his help
COMMERICAL
WEBCLIP #2 -- Boarding House
- Caroline wonders what Stefan is doing there
- Caroline wanted Stefan to stay away from her
- Stefan claims that he made a mistake before he laughs at the thought
- Stefan admits that he needs Damon to continue his mission for Cade (what he gathered isn't enough)
- Stefan: "Honestly I’m here just because when you killed me last night Cade and I had a little chat
- and turns out Hell needs more souls than what I’ve providing and time for Damon to do his part."
- Stefan wants Damon awake
- Caroline admits that they are trying
- Stefan isn't pleased
- Stefan knows that Damon is hiding from his actions like they did when they were kids
- Stefan: "You do know what he’s doing, right? Damon’s humanity is on which means that he’s
- all emo and afraid of owning up to what he did when it was off. When we were kids we
- used to hide out every time we did something wrong until I’d find him and tell him everything’s
- going to be okay."
- Stefan tells them to locate Damon's hiding place inside his head
- Stefan: "So all you need to do is find out where he’s hiding in there and do the exact same thing."
- Stefan wonders why Sybil is helping them
- Sybil wants the Maxwell Bell and she's using the situation to get it
- Stefan is willing to look into finding the bell
- Stefan tells the ladies to fix Damon
- Sybil gets right to it
- Sybil prepares Bonnie and Caroline again
Damon's Mind
- Caroline and Bonnie find the Mystic Grill full of people
- Bonnie notices the paper's headlines
- Is that the same headline from the pilot?
- Bonnie reminds Caroline that they have to find Damon and tell him everything will be okay
- Caroline wonders if they can really do that
- "I forgave him before, I can do it again." -Bonnie
- Vickie Donovan greets them as the hostess
- Caroline is stunned
- Familiar Face #2 = Vickie
- Caroline realizes that Vickie's bite mark is a clue (since Damon gave it to her)
- "Follow the clues." -Caroline
Cemetery
- Peter meets with Matt
- Matt was supposed to pick a spot for Violet Fell's grave
- Matt stands by Vickie's grave
- Matt wonders if Peter remembered Vickie
- Peter tries not to think about it
- Matt reveals that the person that needs the Maxwell Bell is the one who killed Vickie
- Peter agrees with Matt...let Vickie's killer suffer
- "I say let him suffer." -Peter
Mystic Grill
- Caroline thinks that Vickie is a clue they need to follow
- Vickie gets ready to leave
- Caroline gets up but notices someone else...Caroline notices Liz in a booth
- Familiar Face #3 = Liz Forbes
- Bonnie offers to talk to Vickie while Caroline sees her mom
Alleyway
- Bonnie catches up with Vickie
- Bonnie asks about the bandage and Damon
- Vickie reveals it's a hickey
- Vickie never heard of Damon before
Mystic Grill
- Caroline hugs Liz
- Liz is stunned
- Caroline asks about Damon
- Liz doesn't know anyone named Damon Salvatore
- Caroline brings up Damon's vampirism
- Liz is surprised that Caroline knows about vampires
- Caroline wants Liz's help to find Damon
- Liz spills water on Caroline's hand...it burns
- Liz thinks Caroline is the vampire she's been looking for
- Bonnie returns only to see Liz holding a gun to Caroline
- Liz tells Bonnie to stay out of it
- Caroline tells Bonnie to find Damon
COMMERICAL
Bell Tower
- Peter welders the Staff of Arcadius with the Striker
Street
- Seline thanks Matt for building the Bell
- Seline reveals to Matt that a Maxwell has to ring the Bell 12 times
- Matt wonders why 12 times
- Stefan interrupts
- Stefan wants the bell
- Seline wonders why
- Stefan needs Damon to complete Cade's mission and Sybil can give him Damon back
- Seline offers another deal
Boarding House
- Sybil notices that Caroline's nose is bleeding
- "Well that's not good." -Sybil
Underground
- Caroline is tortured by Liz with sunlight
- Just like Bill tortured Caroline in season 3
- Caroline tries to bring up Damon
- Liz reports that Damon died a long time ago
- Caroline is still tortured
- Caroline shouts that Liz is dead
- Caroline admits how Damon was there for Liz
- Damon's feelings for Liz made Caroline forgive Damon
- Liz says goodbye
- Caroline shouts for Liz to come back
Boarding House
- Caroline returns to Sybil
- Sybil realizes that Caroline didn't have what it took to get Damon back
Bennett Home
- Bonnie returns home and is welcomed by Sheila
- Bonnie hugs Sheila
- Familiar Face #4 = Sheila Bennett
- Bonnie took a chance to see if Sheila would be there
- Bonnie is stunned by the correct detail
- Bonnie needs Sheila's help
- Bonnie needs Sheila to do a locator spell
- Sheila doesn't know any Damon
- Bonnie brings up Stefan being Damon's brother
- Sheila refuses to help Stefan the vampire
- Bonnie admits her relations with vampires...even being in love with one
- Sheila is stunned
- "Bonnie Bennett, are you trying to kill me?" -Sheila
- Sheila agrees to help
- Sheila needs something of Damon's
- Bonnie finds Damon's letter of forgiveness to her (since in Damon's head, he subconsciously wants them to find him)
- Bonnie will only read the letter if Damon reads it to her
- Sheila uses Damon's letter to find him
Bell Tower
- Matt sees Peter finishes the Bell
- Seline and Stefan interrupt
- Seline had offered 1,000 souls to Stefan for Cade
- Seline reveals that ringing the Charter Bell 12 times rips a hole that leads straight to Cade
- Anything within the Bell's radius is destroyed and pushed straight to Cade
- Matt is horrified
- Seline plans to be long gone by the time the bell is rung
- Seline wonders if that's enough for Stefan to betray Sybil
- If that's the case, the Maxwell that rings the bell is also killing himself too..right?
COMMERICAL
Boarding House
- Caroline paces
- Sybil tells Caroline to stop...it's distracting
- Sybil maintains the connection between Damon and Bonnie
- Sybil brings out doubt between Caroline and Bonnie
- Sybil reveals that Bonnie plans to give the cure to Enzo
- Caroline is stunned
Cemetery
- Bonnie enters the Salvatore Crypt
- Bonnie finds Damon's grave
- Someone interrupts
- Bonnie wonders if it's Damon
- Tyler reveals himself and begs Bonnie to leave
- Familiar Face #5 = Tyler Lockwood
Bell Tower
- Stefan conmends Seline's evil plans
- Stefan wants Matt to ring the bell
- Matt refuses
- Stefan tells Matt that he either rings the bell to keep Damon suffering or he forgives Damon and doesn't ring the bell
- Stefan compells a deadline to Matt and for him to follow his heart (to forgive or not to forgive for Vickie's death)
Salvatore Crypt
- Tyler tells Bonnie to leave Damon alone
- Bonnie won't leave until she finds Damon and forgives him
- Tyler won't forgive Damon for killing him
- Bonnie notices the dates on Damon's grave
- Damon's birth year is 1839
- Damon died in 1864
- Bonnie realizes what she needs to do
Boarding House
- Bonnie leaves Damon's head
- Bonnie reveals how Damon is living in his head...as if he never became a vampire
- "In Damon's mind, he lived and died as a human." -Bonnie
- Bonnie tells Caroline that they need Stefan
- "Damon needs to talk to Stefan." -Bonnie
COMMERICAL
Boarding House
- Stefan returns and he's on a tight schedule
- Stefan wonders about Damon
- Sybil is working on it
- "Any luck with my brother?" -Stefan
- "Work in progress." -Sybil
- Stefan enters Damon's mind
Cemetery
- Stefan finds himself in a graveyard
- Stefan calls out to Damon and tells him that everything is fine
- Damon appears
- "Hello brother." -Damon
- "Sweet gargoyle, bro." -Stefan
- Stefan tells Damon that he forgives him
- Stefan wants to get back to work
- Damon mentions that Bonnie helped him work things out
- Damon needs to forgive Stefan
- "You're here so that I can forgive you." -Damon
Bell Tower
- Peter wonders if Matt could forgive Damon
- Matt doesn't think he can in ten minutes
- Matt tells Peter to run and get everyone to safety
- Peter won't leave Matt
- Matt tells Peter that he's compelled to ring the bell
- Matt tells Peter that he'll have to kill him
- Peter refuses
- Matt punches Peter
Cemetery
- Stefan is surprised at Damon's claims
- Stefan blames everything on Damon
- Damon forgives Stefan
- Stefan punches
- Damon claims that he still forgives Stefan for everything
- Damon wonders why Stefan always tries to save him...because Stefan blames himself for turning Damon into a vampire
- Stefan attacks Damon
- "I officially forgive you." -Damon
- "Shut up!" -Stefan
- "I forgive you Stefan." -Damon
- Stefan punches Damon some more but he notices that Damon isn't healing
- Damon tells Stefan that he's not the vampire running around in his head...Stefan is
- Damon forgives Stefan again
- "You're my brother and I love you and there is nothing you could ever do to change that." -Damon
- Stefan tells Damon that he's about to burn the town to Hell
- Stefan tells Damon to forgive him now
Bell Tower
- Matt continues to fight Peter
- The hour arrives
- Matt is forced to ring the bell
- One chime is heard
Boarding House
- Sybil and Bonnie recoil in pain (Caroline worries over Bonnie)
- Sybil realizes that Seline constructed the bell
- Stefan gives an emotionless apology
- Stefan reveals that he's about to burn the town to Cade
- Damon wakes up and reacts by plunging his hand into Stefan's back
- Damon won't let Stefan destroy the town
- "You're right little brother, I can't forgive you for destroying our hometown, because I ain't gonna let it happen." -Damon
- Damon rips out Stefan's heart
- Caroline gives a small smirk to Damon (which he returns)
COMMERICAL
Bell Tower
- Matt begs for Peter to do something
- Matt gets to the 10th chime
- The bell starts to light up
- Peter gets up and gets his arms around Matt's neck
- Peter apologizes
- Matt forgives Peter for what he's about to do
- Damon intervenes and knocks Matt out...the Bell rings slightly
- The bell stops glowing
- "Let's hope that one doesn't count." -Damon
- Damon waits outside
- Matt walks out (some time has past)
- Damon wonders how Matt is
- Matt has a headache
- Damon tells Matt that he sent Peter off with the bell
- Before Matt can leave, Damon apologizes for Vickie
- "Hey Matt! I'm sorry about Vickie. I know you'll never forgive me for what I did but I should have told
- you that a long time ago." -Damon
- Matt realizes that Damon's emotions are back
- Damon knows it's a bumpy road ahead
- Matt knows that it's something since Damon just saved the town
- Damon wonders if they are good
- Matt claims that it's awhile before they get there
- Damon offers Matt a ride home
- Matt declines
- Matt needs to head to the station to apply for the Sheriff position
- "I always did like the Sheriffs of this town." -Damon
- Matt smirks back at Damon
- Do I sense a milestone for them turning things around?
Cellar
- Stefan wakes up in a cellar...chained
- Caroline enters
- Caroline knows that Stefan cares more about Damon than her (and she's fine with that)
- Caroline knows that Damon is the key to getting Stefan back to the man she loved
- Caroline will do everything she can to get Stefan back
- "Either way, I'm getting you back." -Caroline
Boarding House
- Bonnie waits on the porch
- Damon drives up
- Damon notices that Bonnie is reflecting
- Bonnie is thinking of the good memories
- Bonnie tells Damon that his actions while under Sybil's control weren't his fault
- "You didn't have a choice." -Bonnie
- Damon recites the letter he left for Bonnie
- Bonnie cries
- Damon: "Dear Bonnie, I am a coward. I should be saying this to your face, not writing this letter
- but I know if I do, you'll talk me out of running away from all my problems. You're going
- to make me face a future without Elena. And you're gonna help make me the best man
- that I could possibly be. The same way she did. And I'm absolutely terrified in failing you both.
- So I'm leaving because I'd rather let you down once than let you down for the rest of your life.
- And I hope it's the happiest life because you, Bonnie Bennett, are an amazing woman, a
- mediocre crossword player and my best friend. With great love and respect, Damon."
- Bonnie: "I'll admit, it's a hell of a letter."
- Damon promises not to leave Bonnie again
- Bonnie hugs Damon
- "I'm so sorry I left. It won't happen again." -Damon
- Oh that was beautiful!
Diner
- Sybil meets with Seline
- Seline wonders why Sybil wants to meet
- Sybil wants to stop with the games
- Sybil brings up that if the Salvatores could forgive each other, they should be able to
- Seline and Sybil think they need to forgive each other
- Cade interrupts
- Sirens are stunned that he's there
- Cade is back because the Bell rang 11 times (ebnough for him to return)
- Sirens offer to work together to do better by Cade
- Cade has other plans
- Cade sets the Sirens on fire
CREDITS
