Season 7 Finale for VD!! (7x22 Thoughts)

Alright so here is a jotted recap of the episode with my initial thoughts included throughout and after the episode. I do it this way because my memory sucks when it comes to recalling things that don't revolve around my OTP for the series.

Synopsis: THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE - Despite their best efforts to help Bonnie (Kat Graham) through the harrowing predicament she now faces, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Caroline (Candice King) realize their options are running out and drastic measures need to be taken. With their only chance of saving their friend lying inside the Armory, Stefan (Paul Wesley) breaks the news to Caroline that they may need help from an unlikely source - hers and Alaric’s twin daughters. Elsewhere, Enzo keeps Bonnie preoccupied by bringing her back to their cabin but when his plan takes an unexpected turn, it’ll be up to Damon to make the ultimate sacrifice to save his closest friends. Zach Roerig (Matt) also stars.
Bonnie as Rayna 2.0 is horrible!! When can Bonnie just be Bonnie? At least she could relate to what Jeremy felt as the Brotherhood of the Five Hunter (the instinct to kill vampires).

- Bonnie hears snippets but she can feel their fear

Asylum
- Enzo talks to Virginia
- Virginia's fear takes over when the thing in the Vault is brought up
- Enzo compels Virginia to tell him what was inside the Vault
- Does Viriginia know that Enzo is an ancestor of hers?
Road / Dallas
- Caroline has a snapchat call with Alaric and the twins (Stefan continues to drive)
- Alaric made cookies for breakfast for the Twins...stress baking
- Caroline confides in Stefan about Lizzie siphoning from her the other day (accidentally)
- Stefan assures Caroline that involving the twins is her choice
- Caroline reminds Stefan that she's still mad at him
- Stefan thinks he's making progress in getting her to forgive him
- "There is definitely not a thaw." -Caroline
- Caroline gets a call from Bonnie
- Bonnie wants them to drive faster as she's gaining on them
- Stefan drives faster but there is a road block ahead
- Stefan turns around quickly and drives towards Bonnie
- "Why do I feel you getting closer?!" -Bonnie
- Stefan tells Bonnie to let them pass her
- Bonnie's Huntress instincts won't let him do that
- Matt breaks through his rope restraints in time to turn the wheel before they collide with Stefan's car

- Stefan dismissed the pilot so that Damon couldn't use the plane to fly to Dallas
- Stefan refuses to have the twins be used against Caroline's wishes
- Damon reminds Stefan about their runaway situation
- Stefan won't let Damon defy Caroline's wishes about the twins

- Caroline drives as she calls Alaric
- Caroline tells Alaric the close call with Bonnie
- Caroline brings up how Damon needs the twins to get into the Armory
- Caroline refused at first (vampires are willing to run) until she talked to Bonnie and heard how much pain she was in

- Matt is unconscious but he's pinned down

- Bonnie thinks Matt doesn't belong in this chase

- Matt calls for backup
- Matt tries to get his leg unpinned

- Damon drinks as he waits
- Stefan is with Damon

- Caroline gets the twins to tap into their fear of losing Caroline to siphon the magic surrounding the Armory
- The twins siphon the boundary spell
- Alaric and Caroline hug the twins...they are proud
Road
- Bonnie is on the phone with Enzo
- Bonnie tries to hotwire a car
- Bonnie sees her friends waiting at the Armory like sitting ducks
- Enzo wants Bonnie to chase him and only him
- "Chase me and only me." -Enzo
- Bonnie taps into her connection with Enzo
- Bonnie goes after Enzo
Armory
- Damon and Stefan find Caroline waiting for them
- Alaric took the twins away from the threat inside the Armory
- Damon opens the Armory and looks to Stefan
- "Shall we?" -Damon
- Caroline tries to say something to Stefan
- Stefan tells Caroline to wait until afterwards (since him going inside isn't a suicide mission)
- Damon and Stefan walk inside...the door closes Caroline out (thanks to Stefan)
- The Salvatores see the carnage inside the Armory
- "This looks promising." -Stefan
- "Meh. I've seen worse." -Damon
COMMERICAL

- Stefan wonders about what was inside the Vault
- Damon doesn't elaborate
- "Do we know what it is?" -Stefan

- Damon and Stefan finds themselves back at the Vault
- Enzo warned them to stay out of the Vault
- Stefan wonders if Damon is ready to go inside
- Damon is ready but he wants to go inside alone
- Stefan refuses
- Damon explains to Stefan why he needs to do this alone
- "I need you to let me go. Let me succeed or let me fail but let me do this by myself." -Damon
- "I need you to believe in me." -Damon
- "Damon..." -Stefan
- "You don't want a life ruled by fear then you walk out on me." -Damon

- "One way or another, I'll be okay." -Damon

- Enzo can't fight Bonnie off...she's stronger as the Huntress
- Enzo knows he'll have to die

Armory Vault
- Damon finds the last Everlasting
- Damon gets ready to burn it
- The body goes up in flames
Cabin
- Bonnie drops the stake from Enzo's chest
- Enzo and Bonnie are amazed
- "He did it!" -Bonnie
- Bonnie rushes to kiss Enzo
- My goodness, I was worried for Enzo for a moment there

Outside Armory
- Caroline is amazed that she doesn't have the Phoenix Scar anymore
- Alaric brings up the changes
- Alaric is ready to go back home with the Twins
- Caroline offers to go too
- Alaric tells Caroline to stay
- "Nah, you should stay." -Alaric
- Alaric tells Caroline that she changed his life
- "You changed my life, you know that right?" -Alaric
- Alaric fell in love with Caroline over the last 3 years though he knows that Caroline doesn't feel that same love for him
- Caroline brings up wanting to make their family work
- "I didn't want to let that go." -Caroline
- "You should be happy. You deserve everything that you want." -Alaric
- No matter what happens, Alaric views him, the twins and Caroline as a family...always

Woods
- Matt is unconscious
- Matt wakes up and sees Penny waiting for him
- Matt doesn't believe it's real
- Penny brings up the possibility of her being a ghost
- Matt apologizes for killing Penny
- Penny doesn't blame him
- "I just can't escape this life." -Matt
- Penny wonders if Matt ever really tried to escape it
- Matt just wants to be with Penny
- "Please take me with you." -Matt
- "Sorry Matt." -Penny
- Penny believes that there is a better life for Matt out there but he has to wake up
- A paramedic shouts for Matt to wake up

Outside Armory
- Stefan waits for Damon
- Caroline brings up how Damon is always fine and that he always comes back

- Stefan wonders what Caroline wanted to tell him earlier
- Caroline admits that she's slowly forgiving him
- "I lied earlier. There was a thaw." -Caroline
- Stefan kisses Caroline
Cabin
- Bonnie works on getting the wood out of Enzo's injury
- Bonnie gets a call from Damon
- "If you think you're forgiven..." -Bonnie
- "I am so forgiven!" -Damon
- "You're forgiven." -Bonnie
- Enzo tells Damon he could have destroyed the Everlasting faster
- Damon thought Enzo would be dead...he jokes about it
- Damon comments on getting a face-to-face thank you from the couple
- Damon starts hearing Elena call to him
- Bonnie and Enzo are stunned by this
- Damon is drawn into Elena's cries for help
- Bonnie and Enzo try to remind Damon that Elena is asleep in a warehouse nowhere near the Armory

- "You don't want a life ruled by fear then you walk out on me." -Damon
- Damon reassures Stefan one last time
- "One way or another, I'll be okay." -Damon
- Stefan finally agrees
- Stefan hugs Damon
- "If you need me, I'll be..." -Stefan
- "Right outside." -Damon
- Stefan walks away
- Damon goes into the Vault and locks it close behind it
- Caroline anxiously waits with Alaric outside the Armory
- "It's been too long." -Caroline
- Stefan walks out
- Caroline rushes to hug Stefan
- Alaric sees this
Cabin
- Enzo fights Bonnie
- Bonnie immoblizes Enzo
- "I can't move." -Enzo
- Bonnie shallowly stakes Enzo
- Bonnie tells Enzo to fight her back
Armory Vault
- Damon ventures inside
Cabin
- Enzo can't fight Bonnie off...she's stronger as the Huntress
- Enzo knows he'll have to die
- Enzo wants one favor
- "When this is over, don't remember this moment. Remember the others." -Enzo
- Enzo tells Bonnie that he loves her and how he's waited for her
- Bonnie returns her love despite holding the stake
- Bonnie can't hold back much longer
Armory Vault
- Damon finds the last Everlasting
- Damon gets ready to burn it
- The body goes up in flames
Cabin
- Bonnie drops the stake from Enzo's chest
- Enzo and Bonnie are amazed
- "He did it!" -Bonnie
- Bonnie rushes to kiss Enzo
- My goodness, I was worried for Enzo for a moment there
COMMERICAL
Outside Armory
- Caroline is amazed that she doesn't have the Phoenix Scar anymore
- Alaric brings up the changes
- Alaric is ready to go back home with the Twins
- Caroline offers to go too
- Alaric tells Caroline to stay
- "Nah, you should stay." -Alaric
- Alaric tells Caroline that she changed his life
- "You changed my life, you know that right?" -Alaric
- Alaric fell in love with Caroline over the last 3 years though he knows that Caroline doesn't feel that same love for him
- Caroline brings up wanting to make their family work
- "I didn't want to let that go." -Caroline
- "You should be happy. You deserve everything that you want." -Alaric
- No matter what happens, Alaric views him, the twins and Caroline as a family...always
- Caroline hugs Alaric
Woods
- Matt is unconscious
- Matt wakes up and sees Penny waiting for him
- Matt doesn't believe it's real
- Penny brings up the possibility of her being a ghost
- Matt apologizes for killing Penny
- Penny doesn't blame him
- "I just can't escape this life." -Matt
- Penny wonders if Matt ever really tried to escape it
- Matt just wants to be with Penny
- "Please take me with you." -Matt
- "Sorry Matt." -Penny
- Penny believes that there is a better life for Matt out there but he has to wake up
- A paramedic shouts for Matt to wake up
- Matt does
Outside Armory
- Stefan waits for Damon
- Caroline brings up how Damon is always fine and that he always comes back
- "He always survives." -Caroline
- Stefan gets a text from Damon...he wants bourbon waiting for him
- Stefan is relieved
- Caroline isn't surprised
- Stefan wonders what Caroline wanted to tell him earlier
- Caroline admits that she's slowly forgiving him
- "I lied earlier. There was a thaw." -Caroline
- Stefan kisses Caroline
Cabin
- Bonnie works on getting the wood out of Enzo's injury
- Bonnie gets a call from Damon
- "If you think you're forgiven..." -Bonnie
- "I am so forgiven!" -Damon
- "You're forgiven." -Bonnie
- Enzo tells Damon he could have destroyed the Everlasting faster
- Damon thought Enzo would be dead...he jokes about it
- Damon comments on getting a face-to-face thank you from the couple
- Damon starts hearing Elena call to him
- Bonnie and Enzo are stunned by this
- Damon is drawn into Elena's cries for help
- Bonnie and Enzo try to remind Damon that Elena is asleep in a warehouse nowhere near the Armory
- Damon ventures further into the Vault
- Damon is floored with memories of Elena
- Loving the memory trip of Delena
- A figure blurs by Damon
- The Elena voice tells Damon that she's lonely and needs rescuing
- "Where are you?" -Damon
- "Right here." -Darkness!Elena
COMMERICAL
Armory
- Bonnie rushes in
- Stefan and Caroline can't get into the Vault since Damon changed the passcode
- Only an Armory member can get into the Vault
- Stefan wonders where Enzo is
- Bonnie doesn't know (she thought he was following her)
- Enzo opens the Vault alone
- The Vault closes behind Enzo
- Enzo finds Damon inside the Vault
- "It's not as bad as you think. It only hurts at first..." -Damon
- A rotting hand trails up Enzo's back
- "And after that, it's kinda fun." -Damon
Aftermath Montage
- Caroline's entry to Elena about what happened
- The trio waited for days
- Stefan tried to get inside the Vault
- Days later, Alaric broke the security code
- The Vault was open but nothing was there
- Damon and Enzo had disappeared
- Bonnie falls apart
- "Her magic never came back. She feels hopeless." -Caroline
- Matt's voiceover continues
- Matt had his sources looking but then he left town to escape it all
- Stefan's voiceover continues
- Stefan heard the first rumor 3 months later...people missing
- Stefan pleads to Elena in his entry that whatever is happening to Damon is not his fault
Warehouse
- Damon and Enzo string up another body
- "It never gets old, does it?" -Enzo
- "Well it sure hasn't yet." -Damon
- The warehouse is covered with stringed up bodies as they bleed from the rafters
- I wanted to get more Damon & Enzo but I never had this in mind...be careful what I wish for
