Because all the cool kids are doing it.
Also because I came out of the finale with massive Lieutenant feels, so this meme is going to be about him.
Don't think I can't see those surprised faces.
So! Give me a prompt about the Lieutenant, AU or otherwise. The only prompts I will ignore are repeated ones, and anything about him being an ex-bender

He vaguely remembered hearing firebending, seeing the light of flames, and hearing Amon -- Noatak? -- run after the Avatar and her firebender.
He remembered wondering if his life would end in fire as well as betrayal.
But the fire was gone, seemingly in the blink of an eye.
Objectively, he knew he'd lost consciousness -- his entire body hurt, from without and within. But time had lost all meaning for him. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Amon casually raising a hand, crushing him with bloodbending, throwing the movement to one side with his Lieutenant.
And then he had abandoned them both to die.
Suddenly, the Lieutenant heard the door swing open, followed by such an inordinate amount of clattering he wondered how many people had been rounded up to arrest him.
And then she came into view.
Of all the people in Republic City, why her? He managed a bitter smile at her. How she must love to see him like this. "Come to gloat, bender?" he asked.
Her eyes went flat, like they always did when he taunted her. She asked, "What happened to you?"
He started to answer her, but coughed instead. Pain lanced through his stomach and lungs, and he curled up as tight as he could without hurting more. Finally he managed, "Amon."
He heard the thump as her knees gave out. She hadn't known? Then why was she even here?
"Y-you need a doctor," she said, like she was trying to find the lie in his words.
How he wished he was lying. He laughed harshly, but that turned into more coughing. "And who would bother to save me, the right hand of a liar?" he sneered once he could speak.
"I would," she said softly.
An entire movement of nonbenders, scattered throughout Republic City in strategic locations. Anybody could be an Equalist; anybody could have found him. And of that movement, it had to be her. The little ex-bender he had taunted and intimidated, trying to get her to show her true colours as a spy. She would try to save him.
"You're a fool, bender."
Something like a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Of course I am," she said. She grabbed one of the beams lying across him and heaved it off. "Aren't you lucky."
He tried to work up the energy to needle her, then gave up. The spirits were already mocking him, and he didn't want to die alone.
Finally, he was free, and he tried to stand. He made it to his knees, then a wave of pain flashed through him and he dropped to the floor again.
"Lieutenant!" She knelt by him and slid her arms around him as support, then stood. He tried to push her away, and instead only slipped painfully to one side.
"You can be a big boy later," she told him, and started walking. The Lieutenant tried, but he couldn't move his legs fast enough to keep up with her. She tried, but she wasn't strong enough to support all his weight.
When they finally collapsed in an undignified heap, she managed to keep it from hurting him too much. They lay on the ground, panting, and finally the Lieutenant asked, "Why?"
To her credit, she didn't pretend she had no idea what he was talking about. "The movement still needs you," she said.
"What movement?" he spat at her. "The movement is dead."
She shook her head. "Amon's... Amon was a fraud. But you're not, Lieutenant. The Equalists will still need you, especially when the backlash begins."
"Then why don't you do it, bender?" he taunted.
Eyes like jade met and held his gaze for a long, silent moment. "If you can't figure it out, Lieutenant," she said at last, "then both of us are fools." She struggled to her feet, supporting the majority of his weight once more.
Every time they fell, she forced herself up and continued on. The falls became more frequent, the time before rising greater, but still she soldiered on -- not for him, he knew, but for a cause she still believed in. A cause she had always believed in.
Lizard-crow wasn't very good eating, he realised before he blacked out.

He doesn't name her because he's dehumanising her -- he doesn't trust her or like her. She does have a name, but it will never come out in his POV until it clicks for him that yes, she's a person.
But right now, after Amon's betrayal, and given how much he dislikes her, he is resisting that subconsciously with everything he has.
Also it may have been fast because I'd already written this scene. >_> You just happened to have the perfect prompt for it.
