Title: A Princess' Welcome
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Princess Azula, Princess Yue
Summary: Princess Azula greets her brother's foreign fiancée. AU.
Azula forced a smile for the Water savage who would be her sister-in-law. Zuko wasn't here to greet her, of course; he was still on his futile quest for the Avatar.
Princess Yue smiled serenely in return, as if she feared nothing.
She was flanked on either side by a pair of blue-eyed guards; one of them wore the blue mask of a waterbender warrior; the other bore the face paint of a nonbender. Interesting; all of Azula's guards were royal firebenders.
"Welcome to the Fire Nation," said Azula, wondering how she could wipe that smile off of Yue's face.
The savage princess bowed like she was Azula's equal. "It was kind of you to greet me," she replied, voice as calm as her smile.
Azula waved one hand as if it was no inconvenience to her. "Father wanted to ensure that you would reach the palace safely," she said. And had explained exactly how unhappy he would be if Yue didn't.
She directed her attention to Yue's guards. "Your services are no longer necessary," she informed them. She almost hoped the savage princess would insist on keeping them; if Azula could plant seeds of doubt as to the parentage of Yue's children--
"Oh, but they are," put in the Water savage sweetly. "They're mine, you see. Father worried so about me being alone here, he found these two, who flow with the same current, to accompany me."
Azula's brow furrowed as she tried to figure out what Yue meant by 'flow with the same current'.
"We're fucking," said the nonbender guard bluntly.
Damn, there went that plan.
"Come this way, then," she said, addressing Yue once more. Stupid white-haired bint.
She led them to the palanquin that would take them to the palace. One of the servants dropped to his hands and knees to serve as her footstool. Interestingly, Yue's guards did not do the same for her; instead, the waterbender knelt with one knee upraised. The other took her gently by the hand and balanced her as she stepped onto the waterbender's thigh and into the palanquin.
Once Yue was settled, they took positions on either side of the transport without a word between them. Azula wondered idly if a breakup would disrupt the men's wordless unity.
"We should reach the palace shortly," she said to the Water savage.
"Thank you, Princess Azula," Yue said softly, still smiling that serene smile.
Azula hated her.
"I do so wish Prince Zuko could have been here to greet you," she said sympathetically. "But he's so busy with his search for the Avatar..."
"I know," Yue replied, raising one hand to touch the red pendant dangling from her necklace. "He writes me often."
"But won't it be hard to have his heirs if he's not here?" Azula asked.
The bitch didn't so much as blink. "We're still young, princess. You yourself might marry before I am with child." Her smile widened subtly. "Perhaps the Earth King will sire yours."
Azula's eyes narrowed. She would see that smile die. The Fire Nation would belong to her, not the spawn of her stupid brother and his savage bride.
