Me: Head!Hiroshi is torn between dislike of hitting females and wanting to slap the stupid out of her.
Bex: Go for it, head!Hiroshi.
Bex: Seriously, if I had a 'bender saying stupid shit like that, I'd slap them too.
Bex: Boo-hoo, I am inconvenienced by having superpowers!
Me: How many JOBS the normal folk have been kicked out of because they can't bend. The HOMES destroyed because a bender got angry. The CONTEMPT the superpowered have for the normalfolk.
Bex: Yes.
Bex: Especially as a society gets more and more industrialized. We see the effects in our own world without superpowers. Throw in superpowers...
Me: Yep.
Bex: Wouldn't you much prefer a waterbender in your hospital to a woman who merely possesses a prestigious degree? Or an earthbender in your construction company to a man who can merely use the tools competently? Or a firebender in your restaurant to someone merely apprenticed to a respected chef? Of course, it's even nicer if the 'bender is both those people...
Me: Or an earthbender in your construction company to a man who can merely use the tools competently?
This would be what happened to Hiroshi's father.
Bex: *cuddles Hiroshi*
Me: (Watch Korra Joss all this. :< )
Bex: Oh yeah.
Bex: But I can totally understand an anti-bender bias.
Me: But I'm pretty sure I'll end up with one or more anti-bender OCs.
And one or two weak benders who probably get it from BOTH sides.
Bex: I also think the solution is not "bending and adventure!" but laws and education and hard work.
Me: Yes. Especially on the laws aspect of it. *cuddles the poor gembenders*
Me: (I've also read a few fics that hint in their backstories that 'benders used to enslave nonbenders)
Bex: (..... Huh. Not a direction I would go, generally.)
Me: (Well, they also imply that this was thousands of years in the past.)
Bex: (Ah, okay then.)
EDIT: And now I have an OC who is an anti-bender. And a gembender. Poor Intan.
