Mi-Sun made him promise not to peek when she took him to her favourite place in the city.

She'd been so insistent on it that Hyo didn't have the heart to tell her he knew exactly where they were going as she led him through the Lower Ring.

He knew the minute they crossed from the city to the Agrarian Zone -- the ground-level tunnel the workers used had a tendency to echo, especially when it was mostly empty, and the light levels changed as they passed from one side to the other. Too, the Agrarian Zone smelled different than the overcrowded Lower City.

Still, it pleased Mi-Sun to think he would be surprised.

They continued walking for several minutes, Mi-Sun keeping up happy conversation with him about how her family was doing. Hyo listened, and commented when he felt it was appropriate. He liked hearing about her life.

Finally, they stopped. "All right," said Mi-Sun. "Open your eyes."

He did so, and was startled by how clearly he could see her in the darkness. Her face was alight in anticipation. "Look up," she said.

He did, and blinked.

Stars were scattered overhead, more than he'd seen in years. He almost forgot Mi-Sun at his side, so entranced was he by the vista above. When she spoke again, however, her voice seemed to fit in almost perfectly with the atmosphere. "There's so many stars tonight."

"I've never seen that many," he replied.

"It's because we're in the Agrarian Zone," Mi-Sun replied. "The lights in the city drown them all out."

"Wow," was all he could think of to say. It was beautiful, the way their silver light glinted against the blue-black of the sky. Here and there, he could pick out clouds as they drifted slowly in the breeze.

A slender hand slipped into his, startling Hyo from his reverie. He looked down to see Mi-Sun smiling at him, an almost tender expression in her eyes.

Slowly, half-afraid she might startle and flee into the night, he drew her close, wrapping his arms softly around her. "Mi-Sun?" he asked, worrying he might be pushing her too far.

"Hyo," she replied, and kissed him.

It was dawn when they crept back to the city.
