I've been working on this universe for some time, and now I'm ready to meme it!

Strange to think that a distractable man with a toddler in his arms would be a defector.
Zhao's question draws the man's attention away from the tri-d screen on his desk and back to him. "I need shelter for my son," he blurts out, all in a rush.
Zhao raises one eyebrow at the other man. "Really," he drawls. The boy looks fine to him, and the Earth Kingdoms aren't really that interested in stealing children away from their families.
Of course, there are other methods of getting test subjects for their modifications....
Zhao drums his fingers against his desk. "How is he modified?"
The man draws the toddler tighter against him, earning a squawk of protest from the boy. "He's not modified," he says quickly. Too quickly.
Zhao smiles. "Of course he isn't," he says soothingly. "It's a standard question, Mr...?"
"They call me the Mechanist," the man admits.
Well.
Zhao smiles. There's a promotion in his future for sure.
