You know something?

I write Mary Sues.

I write them a lot.

Quite a few of my OCs are Mary Sues, or Gary Stus.

Kouji?  Gary Stu.  Angelo?  Gary Stu.  Ichiro?  Shounen protag; of course he's a Gary Stu.  Loren?  Mary Sue.  Yes, she is, Kat.  Rosa?  HOLY GOD YES.  Leilani?  You bet your ass.  Jim?  Um, yes.

But the thing about all these characters?

They're fun.

They're fun to write about, they're fun to play, and I certainly hope they're fun to read.

The thing about the term Mary Sue is that the true definition has pretty much been lost.  It's now used to refer to "any female OC", or, more recently, "any character, usually female, the accuser doesn't like."  (Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom: please see Katara and Toph.  One of them is closest to a Mary Sue.  Please take a guess at which one it is.  If you guessed Katara, you're wrong.)

So I've decided to stop fucking worrying about it and just have fun with the characters, from canon to original.  I would much rather read a well-written OC than a poorly-written fic in perfect keeping with canon, or one of those OOC crack-fics that plague fandom.

Fuck Mary Sue accusers.  The whole thing has gotten out of hand.
