Fandom: Avatar (Vampatar AU)
Rating: PG/K+ for very minor language
Summary: Hyo discovers his little girl cuddling a werewolf.
Notes: This sprang from a mental image I had of work that was made of adorable. So I fic'd it. Funny how that works. No cut; too short to need one.
Hyo paused just outside the palace library. He smelled something new, something not of the city. It was a bit of wolf and a bit of man and a bit of moonlight, if moonlight had a scent. Grey eyes narrowed. So, he thought, that's a werewolf. It was the only explanation, and there was one in the city. Of course, that one wasn't supposed to be anywhere near the palace.
It especially should not be so close to his daughter.
He fought down the surge of anger and urge to fight -- to feed. Going in unprepared could get Mi-Cha hurt, and then he would have to kill the werewolf and things would get ugly.
He was young for a vampire, true, but he was controlled. He was the Commander of the Dai Li. He could handle the situation.
Steeling himself, he strode in and stared.
Of all the possibilities he had imagined, Mi-Cha curled up asleep on the similarly sleeping werewolf had not been one of them.
The wolf was an adolescent, not yet at the enormous size Arctic wolves could reach, but from nose to tail it was larger than the child curled up with her head on his side.
Not liking this, Hyo reached for his daughter, intending to get her away from the shapebender. One blue eye opened, and the wolf growled low and soft at him.
Hyo stopped, his eyes narrowing. "Use your nose, wolf," he told it, just as soft. "She is my daughter."
The wolf did not close its eye, but the growling subsided. Hyo reached again, and this time came away with his daughter cradled in his arms. Somehow, Mi-Cha had managed not to get any of the wolf's white fur embedded in her green hanbok.
He spared a fond smile for his darling, then eyed the werewolf. "You," he said. "Out."
It yawned at him, and Hyo resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "Your fangs do not impress me. Or would rowan make my point for me?"
The wolf heaved a sigh, as if to say 'Well, if you insist,' and got langorously to its feet. It sniffed at Mi-Cha's foot, and Hyo shifted her slightly higher in response, glaring at the wolf's affronted look. After another long-suffering sigh, the damned shapebender sauntered out of the library.
Hyo muttered a curse. He would need to send Chatri out for some mistletoe, it seemed.
