My Last Two Posts (fic posts don't count)

Some of you may be wondering what the picture post on the 19th and the video post on the 20th were all about.  Some of you are unobservant and don't realise that when I make those kinds of wordless posts I'm in an emotionally turbulent state.  Some of you, and you're probably not reading this, just plain suck and don't check my journal at all unless I tell you.

Well, now I'm going to explain just what the hell is going on.  Icon is somewhat relevant.

I have not been having a particularly good week.  On Thursday I impaled my hand, on Friday I had an anxiety attack at work, and on Saturday I just took a mental health day for the greater good (THE GREATER GOOOOOOOOD).

And then Monday rolled around.

The day began normally - wake up, get dressed, pack, go to school.  Math happened, and then I headed to the cafeteria to play on my computer a bit between classes.  When I was plugging in, I somehow managed to push the jack that the extension cord plugs into inside my computer.  Ooops, can't charge.  Annoyed, I texted my brother, asking him to loan me his hard drive, then texted beckyh2112 (hereafter referred to as Bex) to complain, and called my dad who helpfully pointed out that I am not doing so good with electronics this year.

Nooooooooo.

Go to class, go home, and my little brother is a darling and made of excellence and has already dropped off the hard drive.  I made my initial backup, then packed up my computer and headed to Best Buy, where the computer had been purchased.

This is where it gets ugly.

First, they told me that it will take four to five weeks to fix.

Then I'm informed that it turns out we don't have coverage against accidental damage, and what happened to the computer counts as accidental.

Then they tell me that it will cost $85 to ship the computer out for repair, and between $500 and $600 to fix.

The laptop cost $499 when it was purchased..

I took back my computer, went to my car, and promptly burst into tears.  That computer is my life -- I put all of my notes on it, all of my stories; it's how I keep in contact with my friends.

My computer is my freedom.

I eventually calmed down enough to make it home (driving in the rain while crying is not a very good idea), and made my first picture post using my grandparents' computer.  Bex who is my darling got me calmed down, and hell, it really wasn't as bad as my first loss of the year, when all my data went down with it, so I moved on with my life.

Yesterday, my Opa went to Best Buy to see why, exactly, it would take the cost of the computer plus to fix such a small problem.  HE is told that they will ship out my computer at no charge to determine if the damage falls under factory flaw or accidental - they couldn't decide such things at the store.  (Uh... what?)  This is clearly more than what I was offered.

Already pissed off, I decided to check with Toshiba, the company that made my laptop, to see if it was still under warranty.  (It was.)  I called the company to explain the problem, and the man on the phone was extremely helpful.  As of this morning, a box is on its way to the house for me to ship them my computer, and it should take about ten business days for them to repair - for free, of course, because the computer is still under warranty.

I told him what Best Buy had told me, and the guy sporfled in a "I can't believe they fed you that bullshit" kinda way.  After I got of the post with him, I made the video post.

I am making a secondary backup of some more media, and then the computer is shipping out.  My vidmaking will as a result be on hold for several days, but at least I'm not losing them like I did last November.

What is the end result?
  1. I am never buying a computer from Best Buy again.  I will go to Wal-Mart, Target, or the company website.
  2. I am only rarely going to purchase anything from Best Buy.
  3. When I rule the world, Best Buy execs and anyone who tries to screw me over just because I don't have a penis will be the first against the wall.
  1.

puck is not happy, fuckery, wtf
