OMG my wisteria is FINALLY, after 10 years at least in the ground, is blooming! It's beautiful! Sadly, my allergies are so bad I can't smell it, but still. And Tim still wants to cut it down.

The columbines all popped open in the last couple of days, including the new ones I just started last year. They are very, very dark red/purple and to me seem like they fulfil the requirments to be called 'black' in garden terms. This year I've started black hollyhocks, and black Sweet Williams, neither of which will bloom until next year but they will be glorious when they do. Also started some purple leafed perennials, which are tiny now but I hope get big before it's too late to plant them out.

We were supposed to get the biggest thunderstorm this area has ever had today, but it didn't happen. I was looking forward to it.
