Mnn, yet again I neglect updating this journal...
The highlight of June was seeing the Pet Shop Boys live. Dad and I went up to Sydney for a long weekend, did the usual Sydney things (galleries, shopping at the fish markets, and the Game Masters history of games exhibition at the powerhouse museum)... Then finished the trip at the Carrigeworks, a railway maintenance building converted into a swanky arts and theatre venue. The audience was relatively small (only 800 people), we were at the very back in the raised wheelchair section so Dad could sit (even my young sciatica-free back was struggling at the end of the three hours). They did a great mix of old and new songs, plenty of breathtaking stage effects and lasers. Lowe essentially hid behind his keyboard most of the time, but Tennent walked around a bit - their trademark sedate stage presence worked well as an anchor to the bustle of the music and light show.
… Yes, the dance party in my head is still going...
As is my PhD. Sure but always slow progress. I'm ahead of schedule for drafting papers, but behind in getting them published (unsurprising as it often takes months to be told 'no', and you can only submit a paper to one journal at a time...*grows cobwebs*)
Tomorrow, I'll leave for a week in Melbourne for two conferences (giving a talk at each), so that'll be a fun break :)
