I loved Uhura in TOS. She seemed like the life of the party (not unlike Kirk in XI). And your interpretation of the kiss is pretty close to the one I believe. I like to think that they were really good friends in the film and that that was her attempt to comfort him--"I'm sorry" just seems kind of not enough, so she went with a human show of affection, kissing and embracing, because that came closer to expressing how much she cares for him.

I don't think that we end the film with Kirk and Spock in a romantic relationship either. I think they're maybe subconsciously attracted to one another, and certainly the groundwork for that kind of relationship has been laid, but the end of the movie is too soon for them have done anything more than admit to themselves that they didn't hate each other, and hey, the other guy might be a worthwhile person.

And the music thing (both of them, really), that's something that I'd like to see in the next film, Spock playing his lyre, and Uhura singing, just a casual sort of thing--and maybe that can segue into the reveal that they've broken up and are friends now, or have always just been friends? That'd work for me.
