I agree with everything save for your analogy. Dumbledore? Come on, you can come up with a better example than that, Dolph Lundgren as the Punisher, (I'm not even going into the new guy) or a slew of others. All I ask, is that you at least keep it in the comic family, old friend.
I use Dumbledore, actually, because some I know that read this LJ know Harry Potter moresoe than comics. That, and I have an intense dislike for Michael Gambon for some reason. He happened to be the only thing I didn't like about the Omen remake. But if I was going to go into comic references, I would have mentioned Bucky as Captain America for my analogy. I mean . . . Bucky? Fuck's sake! Most people don't even know who he is!
As I said, everyone is entitled to their opinion. (Incidentally, this joker has huge scars in place of a smile. I doubt he'll get compared to much of anyone.) Your post wasn't what set me off, Tommy was. He thinks it's funny when I'm on a tear about something and this is an old, old wound.
I'm ranting because I deeply HATE the Tim Burton version of Batman/Joker. The man has no business near any comicbook character ever again. The Joker happens to be what I think is the Greatest Comic Villain of All Time. So watching that character get butchered by a low-talent hack like Burton burned something awful.
But you, my dear friend, are NOTHING like the Joker. Let no one tell you otherwise. Pale women look gorgeous, in or out of red lipstick. Your smile is more Fae than anything else, I think. :)
okay, I have to add a little bit of light grammar humor that your wife's going to have to agree on. I reread our statement that, "Jack Nicholson was the best joker," is your least favorite sentence, while I would think it would be your favorite and it's all because of one word. Jack Nicholson "was" the best joker. Important thing that past tense and it makes it a completely true statement. Jack Nicholson, was the best Joker (mainly because his only competition was Caesar Romero), at the time it came out. Mark Hamil did do better with his voice, but until now you could make the case that he's the best live action Joker again for the same reason. However, it should be clear to everyone that the late Heath Ledger, "IS" the best Joker, (sorry Hamil). Although it's one of your least favorite cards, it's kind of like the vigilant martyr being everyone's favorite martyr, because there's only one, (though knowing WOC, that could have changed).
This is partly true, though honestly after long years I have been pondering this very statement I have to tell you that Ceasar Romero was quite possibly a better Joker than Jack. Why? Apart from not shaving his moustace, Romero completely changed his normal character to portray the Joker. Jack didn't. And that has always been the crux of my issue with him in that role: it was JACK, and only JACK. Name one thing he did in that movie that he hasn't done in every other movie. You can't. Because it's not there. I have seen one or two other things Romero did, and I tell you he was nothing like that clown he played with Adam West! (Don't get me started on him, either
