Lana spent a good chunk of the day cooking to get ready for Dean's birthday dinner tonight. Yeah, she tended to go a bit overboard, but in this case, at least, she figured he wouldn't object to having a bunch of leftovers to bring home with him.

The house was filled with the smells of baking pies.

Meg knocked on Lana's door, excited but somewhat nervous with the news she was wanting to tell her.

Lana wiped off her hands and went to open the door. "Meg, hey," she said with a smile. "Come on in."

"Hi, Lana!" she said cheerfully and stepped inside. "It smells wonderful in here. What are you baking?"

"Pies and stuff," she said with a smile. "Getting ready to make lasagna, too."

"Dean," Lana said with a smile. "He's coming by for dinner tonight."

She didn't mention his birthday because she wasn't sure if he wanted it mentioned and there was also the promise about nobody finding out about all the presents.

"A birthday dinner?" she asked, guessing. Sam had mentioned his birthday, after all.

She nodded. "Yeah. He's been feeling pretty down lately. Thought this might cheer him up."

Meg cringed a little at that. "Any of that have to do with me and Sam?" she asked her, quietly.

Lana shrugged. "You guys knew he'd be upset," she said quietly.

"I know that Sam talked to him, yes," she replied. "I haven't seen him yet, but yeah, I knew he'd be upset. I feel sorry for that, Lana. Did Dean tell you our plans then, about an open adoption?"

"We're hoping it works out for someone close to here to adopt, that way we can all be a part of the baby's life," she explained.

Lana nodded again. "I hope it all works out for you."

Obviously they'd decided that she wasn't the person they wanted to care for their child, so there was no point in saying anything about it.

Meg was sensing that Lana didn't want to talk about it and she didn't know what to say now to make her feel encouraged.

She settled for an apologetic humblenss. "I'm sorry, Lana, for the decisions that we're making that cause others to hurt. It was never my intention to hurt anyone, but to do what we think is best for the baby. And for us."
