Lana's Cottage: Monday after work [9-29-08]

Sep 29, 2008 16:48

Lana put together a pot of chicken soup and let it simmer, but also made a macaroni and cheese casserole, figuring it would be easy on the stomach, as Dean hadn't seemed thrilled with the chicken soup idea. Once those things were going she had time to straighten up and do a little light cleaning. It was strange how the cottage just didn't feel ( Read more... )

Dean kinda figured stopping by his apartment on the way to Lana's would just result in him crashing out and not actually making it to Lana's. And then she'd pout.

So once he was done patrolling, he went straight on over there and knocked on the door.

Okay, so knocking on the door was a bit more of the thud of his fist hitting the door followed by the thud of his head hitting it as he decided to lean against it for a bit, but, hey. Every guy needs a little extra sleep sometimes, right?

Lana was off the couch quickly and over to the door, wondering if he'd passed out against the door. She opened it cautiously, prepared to at least attempt to catch him if he collapsed. "Hey," she said. "Come on in."

Dude, Dean wasn't the passing out sort. Unless it was due to blood loss.

He was just tired.

"Hey." He pushed himself off the door frame and made the effort to appear slightly less exhausted as he walked in. He could smell the soup. "Cookin' away, huh?"

She smiled at him and nodded, stepping away from the door to let him come in. "Yeah, I figure whatever we don't eat I can save for another time. It all freezes well."

That was probably a pretty good thing. Since she barely ate anything on a good day, and Dean was definitely still not all that hungry.

"Cool."

"Hey, it's going to be a bit before everything's ready," she said. After all, the chicken soup would only get better with the simmering and the casserole could be turned way down. "Why don't you rest for a bit? The couch is really comfy. Or the bed has fresh sheets and all since I haven't been staying here."

Oh geez, that sounded wonderful. "Couch is good." He nodded, then blinked a few times, still trying to not look tired. After a moment he realized he hadn't moved and started shuffling towards the couch.

She picked her book up and moved to one of the chairs to allow him to lie down. "I'm kind of at a good part of the book," she lied. "Hope you don't mind if I just read quietly over here."

Dean snorted. She knew she was a terrible liar, and yet she kept trying. . . . He leaned back on the couch and stretched his legs out, then gave her a pointed look. "Lana. I know you're probably still dyin' to check me for a fever or something, so just get it over with."

She laughed ruefully. "I know, I'm terrible at this. I'm sorry." She moved over to his side and lightly rested her hand on his forehead, checking to see if he was warm.

Dean bore it patiently. He was a little warm, perhaps, but nothing to be too horribly alarmed about.

Mostly he was just so freaking tired.

"Happy?"

"Very," she said, brushing his hair off his forehead. "You sleep now, while I go back to my book. Don't worry about dinner, it'll keep."

Dean rolled his eyes and offered her a tired leer. "You know, if you're gonna play nurse, you should be rocking the uniform."

That made her laugh. "Okay, you are in there somewhere! Tell you what, you rest up and get better and I'll dig one up for another time. How's that?"

Dean smirked and stretched out, folding his arm behind his head and closing his eyes. "Promises, promises."

"Hey," she said all mock-offended, but grinning. "When did I ever renege on a promise? I did the fedora and suit thing, didn't I?"
