It's been a whole week since Caven arrived at our barn and he settled in just fine. The first couple of days were exciting, everything was new and Caven was understandably nervous, but he still behaved and cooperated very well.
He is such a sweetheart. Despite his young age he's trying to do everything just right, he's learning fast and eagerly, and absolutely enjoys all the attention, love and affection that comes his way.
I love him. My sister loves him. Our mom loves him. Even our dad has fallen in love with him, and that is really saying something because he is usually afraid of horses. Caven is such a gentle, well-behaved, adorable, open-hearted and sweet horse.
While we were still trying to get to know him, get used to him, he already put his trust in us from the very first day on. It was unbelievable. That kind of feeling that I'm used to having to give to a horse before it's given back, Caven gave it to us first. And it really stunned me.
After the long drive and hours of standing still on the transporter, we let Caven run around the arena for a bit so he could blow off some steam. When he was done and calmed down from all the excitement, he came straight at us and wouldn't leave our sides anymore. We walked around the arena and he followed us. He didn't have to. He chose to.
That kind of feeling, the trust, the sympathy, the gratitude, the understanding, and acceptance, that kind of feeling usually has to be earned. A horse doesn't just give that to you.
Caven did, and I think it's also because he very quickly understood and felt that he would be in good hands from now on and maybe he also felt how much love we have to give and want to give. He chose to accept that in an instant.
And we're getting to know each other better with each passing day and the bond that was so miraculously formed on the very first day is only getting stronger. Caven always comes when we call him, he never wants to leave our sides, always sticking close by, even when he doesn't have to. It makes us feel so loved and trusted. It's wonderful.
He is an amazing horse, and I am eternally happy and grateful that we found him and that we could take him home with us.
