Samantha Carter held her P90 tightly as she let a shower of bullets fly into the on coming Jaffa troop. Teal'c's larger back pressed against Sam's as she glanced over her shoulder and shouted, "How you doin' Teal'c?"
"I believe that we are surrounded Colonel Carter," Teal'c said between shots from his staff weapon.
"You noticed that too," Sam yelled over the roar of her gun, "Where the hell is Mitchell?"
As if on command, Cameron Mitchell's voice crackled through on her radio, "We've got some problems over here Sam, how are you guys doin'?"
Sam fumbled for the talk button on her radio, while dodging a staff blast, "Not so good Mitchell. We could really use your help."
"Be there as soon as we can, but we're having our own troubles. Mitchell out," he said and she could hear the gunfire as he cut the radio.
"It looks like we are on our own Colonel Carter," Teal'c stated the obvious conclusion.
It was beginning to look as though their simple recon mission was not going to be so simple. She tried to think back and count the number of missions that actually went as planned. None came to mind.
Glancing around, Sam realized that the stream of Jaffa invading from her direction was taken out and she could not see anymore pursuing. She took a moment to make a more precise scan of the area and came up again seeing no Jaffa. They were caught in a clearing when the first warrior troop arrived and they dove into a ditch for cover. Sam knew they couldn't stay in the ditch for much longer, more Jaffa would be on the way and the two of them couldn't hold them back forever. Sam looked behind her and saw that Teal'c was still battling off a small group of Jaffa, but she came to the educated conclusion that they could handle them. However, they could not handle the Jaffa troops that were closing in quickly to join the others in the battle.
"We should make a run for the trees we'll find more cover there," Sam said, laying a hand on Teal'c's shoulder to get his attention and sat up onto her heels. He turned to look at her quickly and she nodded towards the tree line, about fifteen meters away.
Teal'c looked took a quick look over at the tree line, nodded then turned his attention back to the Jaffa, "That is a wise idea, Colonel Carter."
Sam nodded, "On three…one…two…three."
On three, they stood up and opened fire on the Jaffa as they bolted to the trees. Sam turned to see that they were almost there and leaving the Jaffa at their backs. Just as Sam grabbed on to the first tree she felt Teal'c pushing her down on to the ground. She hit hard, barely missing hitting her head on a rock. She turned quickly, with great effort underneath Teal'c, who was lying on top of her. His weight pinned her to the ground and was making it very difficult to breathe.
"Are you injured," Teal'c panted, his breathing sounding labored.
"No, I think I'm okay," Sam forced the words out through her struggled breaths; other then a sharp pain in her knee and the weight on top of her everything else seemed to be unharmed.
Teal'c rolled off her and she could see that he had a large staff blast wound on his back. The wound was deep and bleeding in a continuous stream, soaking his black t-shirt.
"Oh my god, Teal'c," Sam whispered, trying to get up and take a better look.
Teal'c pushed her away gently, "Not now, Colonel Carter."
Sam looked back at the Jaffa who were quickly closing in on their position, "Can you get up?"
"Yes," Teal'c groaned, pushing himself up off the ground. He stumbled a bit and Sam put his arm around her shoulders to steady him.
Sam could feel Teal'c failing in his attempts to escape and knew they would not be able to go on much more. They continued for another few steps before he finally fell to the ground.
"Come on," Sam urged, attempting the impossible task of trying to lift him back up, "We have to move."
"I cannot," Teal'c breathed heavily, closing his eyes, "You must leave without me."
"You know that's not an option," Sam said, crouching down in front of him and laying a hand on his cheek, "We don't leave our people behind."
Teal'c smiled slightly and was about to object, but it was too late. The Jaffa were already on their position and one of them was grabbing roughly at Sam. She elbowed the Jaffa who was holding her from behind, in the face as another took hold of her legs. The warrior behind her fell back and she tried to kick her legs free from the other without much success. She glanced over at Teal'c who was forcefully brought to his feet by two enemies, without much resistance. Turning in time to see another one pointing a zat weapon directly at her, she froze helplessly. She felt the pain of the electric energy pass through her body and she fought to stay conscious but darkness won over.
~~~~~~
Ever since the Ori had began stirring up trouble all over the universe the Jaffa were increasingly becoming trouble again. Even though Se'tak had died while trying to use the weapon on Dakara against the Ori Warships, another Jaffa had risen up to take his place. Now the majority of the Free World Jaffa were fighting the Ori at all costs and anyone who stepped in their way. Unfortunately, they had deemed the people of the Tau'ri an enemy after they had spoken out against the murdering of the innocent Ori followers.
Now, the Jaffa seemed to be on every planet that they stepped through the gate.
~~~~~~
"Sam," she heard a soothing voice calling from very far away.
"Colonel Carter," came a bellowing shout.
Sam sat up quickly to attention and despite her closed eyes and cloudy mind, she forced out the words, "Yes sir!"
Opening her eyes slowly she found a very amused Vala, leaning back on her heels and trying to hide her giggles. Daniel was giving Vala an unimpressed look, which she was ignoring, as he sat with his back against the bars of their prison. Teal'c and Mitchell were nowhere to be found.
"I told you that would work much better," Vala laughed playfully at Sam.
"What," Sam mumbled, forcing her eyes to stay open as they threatened to close.
"Nothing Sam; Vala is just being her usual caring self," Daniel replied, glaring at Vala.
Vala was glaring back at him much the same way and even in her state, Sam could still see the sexual tension that electrified between them.
"Where are we," Sam asked, ignoring their petty squabbles and rubbing her sore temples.
"I'm not sure exactly. It looks like an under ground prison," Daniel replied.
Sam took a look at the sturdy in a cage that imprisoned them. Through the bars, Sam could see a console on the far wall that she guessed would free them.
"Where's Teal'c and Mitchell," Sam asked as she tilted her head to each side, attempting to get the kinks out of her neck.
"They took Teal'c when we got here, probably for questioning," Daniel replied.
"More accurately, torture," Vala cut in.
"He wasn't looking so good," he said and Sam could see the concern in his eyes.
"Yea, he got a staff blast to his back," Sam added, helping herself to remember the occurrence. She tried to stop the shivers that were uncomfortably running along her spine, but failed. She knew he was strong, but she still worried; none of them were invincible.
"And Colonel Mitchell left us to die," Vala added, interrupted the unsettling moment and throwing up her arms over dramatically.
"He managed to escape before we were captured," Daniel clarified.
Sam nodded and sat back against the barred wall opposite Daniel, "So anyone got any ideas?"
"Right now I'm kinda hoping on Mitchell," Daniel confessed, "Otherwise, we got nothing."
"Great," Sam sighed and tried to shake off the dizziness that was still settling in her head.
"Yes, I'm not very happy with that plan either," Vala said, dropping her head back against the bars.
The sound of the door opening stopped all other chatter and their attention immediately turned in that direction.
Four Jaffa marched into the room carrying a bloodied Teal'c, who was just barely conscious. One of them stopped at the console and unlocked the door, while another two kept their staff weapons pointed at three fifths of SG-1. The Jaffa carrying Teal'c tossed him into the cell roughly and he fell forward with a loud thump as his body collided with the stone floor. Sam quickly shuffled over to him and checked it see that he was all right. He opened his eyes for a moment and gave her nod to signal that he would live and she let out a sigh of relief.
"You," the Jaffa growled, his finger extending to Sam's direction, "Come here."
Sam was startled for a moment and then curved her attention to the Jaffa. She pointed at herself and then with a half smile she shook her head, "No way."
"Jaffa, kree," the Jaffa shouted in response, to the others. Two of the Jaffa immediately entered the cage to force Sam out through the door. The other two kept their staff weapons on the others in case they decided to try to escape.
Sam realized it would be best not to do anything just yet. She was not on top of her game just yet and even if they did manage to subdue the Jaffa, she wasn't sure they'd be able to easily get the now unconscious Teal'c out of there as well.
The Jaffa grabbed her by the arms and dragged her out of the cage. Another quickly turned back to the consol, locked the cage again and then opened the door. They led Sam down a long dull hallway, passing several corridors; the place was like a maze. She had no idea how large it was, but judging from what she could see, it was massive.
They finally stopped at another room, shoving her through the door; it shut quickly behind her and Sam took a moment to survey her surroundings. Three Jaffa stood in the room, the leader apparent from his dress and bearing; the other two stood by as servants. The room was quite small and dimly lit. Across from her, Sam could see shackles attached to the wall for wrists and ankles. She could also see many devices, which she guessed were for torture, but she could only recognize one…the Goa'uld pain stick.
"Boy am I in for a treat," Sam joked nervously.
"Colonel Samantha Carter," the Jaffa leader said with a twisted smirk on his face, "It is a pleasure to meet you."
"Who are you," Sam demanded.
"Who I am is not important. I just want to ask you some questions," the leader said pleasantly.
"And if I refuse," Sam asked, already knowing the answer.
"Look around you Colonel, if you do not know what happens, then you are not as smart as everyone says you are," he replied, motioning towards the torture devices, "Shall we begin?"
"Sure," Sam sighed, she wouldn't give them any information. Instead, she found herself hoping Mitchell would come running in to save the day, then almost laughed at that idea.
"Why are you here," the leader said, walking closer to Sam and staring at her with determination.
"Recon," Sam shrugged, challenging his stare.
"I have heard that the people of the Tauri have joined with the Ori and are planning a war with the Jaffa," he spoke causally, stopping about a foot away from her.
"Well you heard wrong," she replied, matter-of-factly.
"I don't think I am. What is it that you have planned?" he asked, leaning in towards her.
"We don't have anything planned. We are trying to fight off the Ori at the moment," she shook her head.
"You're lying," he spat out.
"No I'm not," she defended.
"Jaffa," he shouted, and then turned away from her, "Lock her up. It appears she needs a bit of persuasion."
The Jaffa quickly pushed her up against the wall and attached the chains to her wrists and ankles, immobilizing her. The leader walked back to stand in front of her once again.
"Now, I will ask you once more. What are the Tauri planning?"
She shook her head, "I already told you, we aren't planning anything."
The leader sighed and dropped his head. Sam thought he was going to walk away from her, but instead he quickly threw back his fist and then let it collide with the right side of her jaw. She felt her teeth rattle and then a searing pain tore threw it. The taste of blood filled her mouth and she realized that she bit her tongue. She spat, the blood landing on the ground before her.
"We are not your enemy, I promise you that," she yelled, "We're on your side, trying to stop the Ori like you."
"Then why is it that I find you spying on us," he demanded.
"We weren't spying; we were on a recon mission. This planet was supposed to be uninhabited," she tried to explain.
He brought back his fist again and this time sent a powerful blow to her kidneys. Sam tried not to scream and let out a loud grunt instead, falling forward held up by the restraints attached to her limbs.
"Your lies will not work on me," the calmness had left his voice. He reached to the wall beside her, picking up the Goa'uld pain stick, "You will tell me everything."
~~~~~~
"What do you think they're doing over there," Vala asked, watching the door.
"Oh, I'm sure they're all just sitting down to a nice tea party," Daniel said sarcastically. He sat against the bars with his knees to his chest, drumming his fingers nervously on his knee.
Vala rolled her eyes and looked down at Teal'c. He was conscious, but definitely not up for a battle with the Jaffa. She turned back to Daniel, "Well we can't just sit here."
Daniel sighed and squeezed his eyes shut, "What do you want to do Vala? We are stuck in a very solid cage."
"There's always a way out of everything. I don't know about you, but I don't have that much faith in Colonel Mitchell," Vala said, shrugging her shoulders.
Daniel opened his mouth to speak, but but the door opening interrupted him. They both turned to find no one on the other side and then after a few seconds Colonel Mitchell's head popped out from around the corner, scanning the room for Jaffa. Seeing none he walked in quickly, checking behind himself to make sure there were none coming from behind.
Vala stood up quickly and ran over to the other side of the cage, toward Mitchell.
"Colonel Mitchell! I was just telling Daniel that you would be here soon to rescue us," then she added in a whisper, "He didn't think you'd make it."
Daniel just glared at her and refused to reply, it would only encourage her.
"Uh huh," Cam nodded, not really paying any attention to her. Instead he made his way over to the consol and stared at it, puzzled. He looked back up at them, "Any ideas how to work this thing?"
"I don't know, try pressing some of the buttons," Daniel shrugged, rising to his feet.
"I'm sure he couldn't have figured that one out on his own. Thank goodness you are here Daniel," Vala yelled sarcastically.
"Now, now, children," Mitchell said beginning to press the buttons in different orders. After several tries, he finally got the door unlocked.
"Where's Sam," Mitchell asked, looking at Daniel.
"I don't know the Jaffa took her," Daniel replied.
"I assume that they took her to the same room as they took me," Teal'c spoke up; "If that is the case then I believe I can take you there."
Teal'c managed to sit himself up, but that was as far as he could get.
"Okay," Mitchell nodded, "Jackson you and Vala grab the big guy and let's go."
"Why do I have to," Vala whined, "You're much bigger and stronger than me."
"Because I am the guy with the gun," Mitchell said and waved his P90.
"Well if you gave me the gun, then you could carry him," Vala reasoned, trying to take a hold of the gun.
Mitchell smiled at her attempt and easily lifted it out of her reach, "Not gonna happen."
~~~~~~
The dead weight of Sam's body sagged forward like a puppet on strings. Her head bobbed as she fought to stay conscious. Suspended only by her metal restraints, her wrists and ankles were sore and chafed from pulling against them. Every muscle and nerve in her body ached and screamed, but she was strong and she found hope that she would pull through.
The leader jabbed her in the ribs with the butt end of the pain stick and she felt one of her ribs break. A moan escaped her lips, but as of yet she had still managed to keep her screams inside. He had used the torture device on her twice and in between, he used it to beat her. She could tell that he had lost all of his patience, not getting any information that pleased him from either Teal'c or her.
She closed her eyes for a moment and began to drift off into unconsciousness until her eyes opened wide as she was struck again, this time across the cheek. Her eyes closed as if she had no control over them and she felt blood trickle out of her mouth.
Suddenly she heard familiar voices and thought that she had lost consciousness again. It sounded like Mitchell, but she could not trust herself to be right.
~~~~~~
The Jaffa were instantly upon them as the rest of SG-1 rushed through the doors to save their teammate.
"Whoa," Mitchell said as he quickly opened fired on the two approaching Jaffa, taking them out. This caught the leader off guard, who had been preoccupied with Sam, but realizing his Jaffa were down he attempted to grab for the nearest fallen Jaffa's staff weapon.
"Ah ah ah," Mitchell said, holding his P90 on him, "Take one more step and I will take you down too. We just want to get our friend here and we'll be on our way."
The leader stopped in fear of his life and stepped back away from the weapon.
"I think you should drop that too," Mitchell demanded, motioning to the pain stick with his gun.
The leader looked at his last line of defense and then reluctantly let it fall to the ground.
"Good," Mitchell nodded then turned his head back slightly in Vala's direction, but keeping his eyes on the enemy, "Now Vala, you said something about wanting a weapon, here's your chance."
Vala gladly left Daniel to struggle under Teal'c's weight and leapt over towards one of the dead Jaffa who was still clutching his staff weapon. She pried it out of his hands with some difficulty and then went back to help Daniel, who was now almost falling over, with Teal'c.
"Unlock her," Mitchell commanded to the leader.
The leader walked over to Sam and Mitchell followed closely behind, pushing his gun into his back to make sure he would not get away.
"How you doin Sam," Mitchell asked softly, brushing some of her blood stained hair out of her eyes.
"I've been better," Sam spat out.
"It's okay, we'll be home soon," he soothed.
The leader began unlocking her chains and attempted to threaten them as he did so, "You're not going to get far. My Jaffa will stop you before you can reach the Chappa'ai."
"Whatever you say," Mitchell said, holding Sam around the waist as she fell into him when freed from the last shackle. He struggled to keep her in one arm as he kept his rifle on the leader and whispered to her, "Please tell me you can walk."
Sam nodded her response and put her arm around Mitchell's shoulders. Pain seared through her body and she was running on pure adrenaline now.
"We just gotta get to the gate, we got a couple of Majors holding it down until we get there," he continued to whisper to her.
"Okay," Sam responded, her voice cracked as she spoke.
"Alright let's move," he called to the others and began leading them out of the room, "I'm not too fond of this world anymore."
~~~~~~
"Oh, good you're awake."
"Huh," Sam mumbled, shifting her position in the bed.
"Do you know where you are?"
Sam managed to open her eyes and saw Dr. Lam, with Mitchell standing beside her, staring back at her. She took a look around the room and then nodded, "Infirmary."
"Good," Dr. Lam nodded, "You're going to be fine, after a couple weeks of rest."
"Yeah, thankfully they only had to amputate your arm," Mitchell said shaking his head sadly.
"What," Sam gasped, sitting up and checking to find both arms intact. The pain from her ribs tore through her body as if she was on fire and she fell back against the bed.
"Sorry," Mitchell chuckled to himself.
"Not funny," Dr. Lam said sternly, "Do I have to order you to leave."
"No, I promise, no more jokes," Mitchell said seriously.
"Fine," she said and then turned back to Sam, "I want you to get some rest."
Sam agreed, her entire body was tired, "Sounds good."
Dr. Lam gave Mitchell a final stern look before she left the infirmary.
"I'm glad you're alright," Mitchell said, giving her hand a squeeze, "you had us worried there."
"How's Teal'c," Sam asked.
Mitchell stepped aside so she had a view of the bed next to hers where Teal'c laid asleep, "He's recovering, but he will be fine. Give it a week and you will both be dancing again."
"I think it'll be a little more then a week," Sam replied, managing a smile.
Mitchell smiled back and an uncomfortable silence fell between them. Finally, Mitchell bobbed his head nervously then leaned down and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"You did good, Sam," he said, gave her hand a quick squeeze and left.
Sam turned to look over at Teal'c, who still appeared to be sleeping soundly and then said, "Are you really asleep?"
A smile crept across his face, "I am."
"Liar."
