Oh, wow. That's intense. Plotty and messy and I can totally believe that Daniel would do that, especially Daniel back at season 5--he's disillusioned but not so worn down as in later seasons.

Excellent Jack and Carter, too. I wish I could see how you resolve all this...

Thanks very much, and for your lovely feedback too.

Jack and Sam totally win. Have you no faith in Carter's ability to dial a buried gate remotely, rig a transmitter that cancels the radioactive white noise, and send for the troops? Or Daniel's ability to be beamed away unwilling from a beseiged and beaten city? Um, I'm just saying. Sadly, no more real writing on this one though, ficathons are very very bad for me.

Really enjoyed this well thought-out fic, and glad to hear it all turns out well.

Thank you for your comments! Glad you enjoyed it.

I don't know, though. I don't know if a physical rescue would be enough to save the team; they could be fractured beyond repair. I think that they had a shot here, at this point, to make things right. If Jack faces up to his crusade, if Daniel comes clean sooner, if they remember how to truly put the team first they could overcome even this, but they lost it. Which is why I ended it here, sad to say :(

Oh ouch. Dark fic indeed.

The flashback bits with Teal'c were wonderful. It seems he, at least, hasn't gone dark.

How bleak that they all were starkly in character even like this.

Thanks so much. It took me a while to get the Teal'c sections down; I'm glad they worked.

Yowsa. That is... that is serious crucible stuff there. Everyone just at their most basic motivations in the most horrid of circumstances. Daniel would sacrifice himself, yes, Jack would sacrifice everything to get home, Teal'c would not compromise his honor and Sam would follow orders.

Yes.

Also the science babble came out great and was kick-ass in context.

Thanks again for the help with the science. I wiki'ed, but a real live physics guru is so much better :) I'm glad you liked the story.

Daniel would sacrifice himself, yes, Jack would sacrifice everything to get home, Teal'c would not compromise his honor and Sam would follow orders.

And despite those motivations, I think at the same time that all of them are various degrees of lost (at least, I hope that's what comes across). Jack's pounding Kelowna with all he can and he *does* want to hurt them. Sam is there because she's been damaged and Jack's what she has left, but she's still also unwaveringly loyal, and she trusts him enough to ignore the faulty moral compass. They all still love each other and that won't change, but they've lost sight of how to keep their kinship in light of everything that's happened.

Wonderful gritty portrayl of the demands of combat and survival. O'Neill would pick a side and try to get home no matter what. He's right. These folks are undeserving. Whichever side serves the purpose is it. Daniel back in S5 would do just what you wrote...sacrifice himself for an idea. I hope you pick up the story again at some point.

So it's not really a continuation in the strictest sense of the word, but at katie_m's request I did a timestamp meme for Mine Eyes Have Seen. Noting it here because I didn't really post it anywhere except my lj, but you had expressed some interest in whether or not it was continuing. As I noted above to cofax, not sure how much it answers, but it's there if you're interested :)

I'm going to be late for work because of this -- great stuff. Intense and unexpected, and my only complaint is that it doesn't go on long enough. Way good! Thanks.

Oh thank you! I was a little bit worried because you requested no character death... um, well I figured OC's were fair game but I wasn't sure about poor Jonas. Dark + Meridian + "Everybody Lives" -- it was a bit of a challenge (not to mention I spent the first month and a half somehow thinking you'd requested a Moebius AU instead of Meridian). But then when I ironed it out I hit on the idea that nobody got a get-out-of-Kelowna-free card for something silly like compassionate grounds. Thanks for the prompt, and I'm very glad you liked it!
