so cassidy...the himi rex dumbo girly is the definite oddball. i have no idea HOW but she seems to be hairless. she's 7 weeks so starting to get her fuller coat...or lack there of. she's still fuzzy but she has that short fur feel and yeah. orion felt this way when i first got her too since she had peach fuzz still. it's just...strange. she only

So I don't feel like arguing a point on myspace since that seems to be what would happen and all I wanted to do was give you the info I know from other breeders. BUT the person that posted below me (although she/he sounds very knowledgeable) mentioned that having a rex rat with short curly whiskers and a few guard hairs. Now, not to be a jackass, but THAT is a what many rex/hairless breeders consider fuzzy hairless and she may just assume it's a normal rex because it has a rex parent without thinking about the possibility that the hairless gene is somewhere in there. A lot of people mistake the different hairless versions for rexes just because they do have some fur, but if you speak with some breeders that specialize in hairless and rexes (as in they've been doing it a long time) you'd see that there are multiple hairless genes with multiple ways of expresses themselves on the ratties...*breathes deep*

Not saying I'm 100% on this, just going with what I've learned and whatnot and in this case it could be wrong, but I still like my guess (based on what you've said about her) and it would make her that much more special because then you'd know for sure that you have a hairless gene in your line on the mama's side.

yeah, none of the other babies were like cassidy and even her brother (the only other one i kept) isn't like that. the girl i got wolf from also gave me one of my first girls (mona) but i was assured they weren't related and i was never told anything about mona. i mean....she COULD have hairless, or rex even, somewhere in her line. but it wouldn't have showed up until now, haha. cassidy is a special little girl.

i charged the battery for my camera so i should take a pic and upload it later and stuff!

also, to add to it....i took a few pics. her whiskers...do crinkle some but they're not as sporadic as all my other rex kids. they have the same pattern type as my hairless with the curling into the muzzle thing, but a few of her are crinkly. and by a few i mean like...maybe 4 tops? the pic i took isn't a good one, but i'll upload them after work and put them on facebook and myspace. so look in the morning

also also. lol. more stuffs to add: apparently cassidy's brother (sold him the other day) is doing the same thing. i'm in touch with his owner and she's going to keep me posted on if he grows his coat back in a few weeks. i'll obviously keep an eye on cassidy too. if he stays hairless then ODD. lol

It does sound like there is more to this than them just being odd rexes! It's exciting finding out new things about your breeding stock though isn't it?! And where are these pictures???

lol yeah my laziness extended to not going in the other room for camera cord. soon, soon. and it IS exciting! though the girl with the odd boy says his whiskers are curly like a rex, but we'll see!

Maybe they are curly, but just not as long as a regular rex...does she have a regular one to compare length? Either way super fun finding new things! I remember when Ash and I started breeding we bred one couple that we probably shouldn't have, except the parents had super temperaments and the result was a baby boy that looked like the dad and a baby girl that had the color and markings almost like a cow and I think that's why we named her Marble...either way she had cool markings! I can't wait to see pictures!

her whiskers are...medium length? but the curl in like i've seen pictures of hairless. with just the very small number of crimpy whiskers. i got a bad pic of her face, she won't hold still. lol. i'll try again later =P
