25 Random Horse-Related Things About Me
1. My Morgan Flower saved my life and was my soul mate and I will never be the same now that she's gone.
2. I still cry when see Flower's name in print. I have learned to never again have a horse with such a commonly used word as a name...
3. I have regret about people I'll meet in the future, I feel bad that people will come into my life in the future that never had the opportunity to know Flower. I'm not sure how anyone will ever truly understand me if they never met her.
4. I have a numb area on my left hip and daily hip and back pain from a fall off an ERL (Equine Rescue League) horse. I also have two really bad knees and migraines from riding accidents.
5. I was a Three Day Event groom for 6 years. I've groomed at all levels including the Rolex CCI**** and the PanAmerican Games. I fell 100% in love with every horse I ever groomed for and still visit the ones that live in the area.
6. I enjoy caring for horses, working them on the ground and grooming at shows more than I enjoy riding.
7. Flower picked out my TB Quin for me - Quin was 4 at the time and I never sat on her before buying her... she was Flower's best friend in the field and the only horse that Flower ever allowed to walk up to me in the field. Flower also allowed me to share her treats with Quin (anyone who has owned a Morgan will understand how significant this is). Flower was very attached to her so when we left the barn, I bought Quin and took her with us!
8. I spend more than twice on board then I do on rent.
9. I was terrified to ride when I first began taking lessons. For months, my instructor would grab the reins and jog along beside me or I would refuse to trot. I took lessons for over a year before I would attempt a canter. My first six falls put me in the hospital. The only reason I kept getting back on was the fact that I was determined to ride Flower.
10. I owned four horses for over 4 years before I ever rode one.
11. Each of the seven horses I've owned has been totally amazing in their own way. I am constantly amazed that I've been so lucky to know these amazing animals and have been honored to share their lives with them.
12. I never really fully appreciated my horse Disco until after her sister Flower died. I see that now. I always loved her, but she was always "Flower's little sister", but I have since learned that although she is totally different than Flower, she is amazing in her own right. You can't meet Disco without clearly seeing her heart of gold.
13. When I feel really horrible, like nothing will ever go right again, sitting in my horse's stall and watching her eat hay fixes everything.
14. I think chestnut mares ROCK!!! I think people who go horse shopping, but won't try a chestnut mare don't deserve one anyway.
15. I can't think very highly of people who think horses are just animals and can't think and don't have emotions or feelings.
16. I wear a necklace every day - it has a small silver charm on it and in the charm is a bit of each of my horses' tails and a whisker from each of my dogs.
17. I can't understand why horse sports don't get more coverage on TV. I'm utterly flabbergasted that people would rather watch golf then Dressage.
18. I hardly ever clean my tack (opps! Did I say that out loud?)
19. I think there are few things on Earth as cute as a pony.
20. Riding my horse through fresh fallen snow is one of my favorite things to do. Bonus if it is still snowing.
21. I believe that horse lovers are a special and amazing group of people and I'm proud to be in this group. I belive people who have never known a horse can never understand us, and they are truly missing something special about life.
22. I take WAY better care of my horse than I do of myself. I have to be at death's door before I'll go to a doctor, but if my horse coughs I call out the specialists. I should put 1/3 of the thought and concern into my own nutrition as I do my horses'!!
23. I strive to be the person my horses deserve to have caring for them.
24. I love watching horse movies - even if they are horrible or badly made. I think the first half of the Black Stallion has some of the most beautiful scenes ever shot.
