08 When Kai woke up the next morning he felt..well...not very good.
When he rose his head was spinning and when he moved to the bathroom he had to hold onto various things on the way so he wouldn't fall over.
But he managed to do his morning ritual and then enter the kitchen, where he first of all searched for the medication the doctor had given him for things like that. He had said this could happen if he tried to sped the memorization process to much.
After taking some medicine he felt much better, but also much more tired so he decided to eat a little breakfast and then go back to bed again.
When Kai woke the next time it was already early afternoon, so he decided to eat something and then take a little walk. He felt much better still and he hoped that it'd stay like that.
His fist walk lead him to his post-box where he found a couple of letters, mostly bills and advertisements but also a postcard. He read it on the way back up to his flat.
It was from Miyavi, who was touring at the moment and wanted to give a sign of live to his 'beloved Kai-chan', as he put it.
Kai was...surprised...to say at least. But it was a good surprise and he decided to place the card on his fridge.
Afterwards he decided that, yes, he wanted to meet his band mates, but, no, he didn't want to go to the studio yet. So he went to search for his directory to find Ruki's number, so he could invite the others over.
Soon he had found it and was now sitting in his living room, nervously dialing Ruki's number.
It didn't take the person on the other end long to answer his call.
"Moshi moshi", a voice from the other end sounded.
Hesitantly Kai answered: "Hello. Is that Ruki-san?"
"Yeah, it's me. Kai-kun, ne?"
Kai nodded. "yes. uhm...I...I wanted to ask, if you...all of you...would like to come over today.", he sounded very insecure about the whole thing, but Ruki's cheerful answer took some of the fear away.
"Of course we like to. Should we bring something with us?"
"No", Kai replied. "I'll make dinner."
"Sounds awesome", Ruki said, happy that Kai was at least back to that part of himself. "when should we be there?"
Kai thought about it, glancing at the clock. "What about you're here at around 6 o'clock?"
"Sound good. I'll inform the rest of us. See you then."
"Good bye.", Kai said and then he hung up, nervously looking at the telephone, as if it could ask his question of whether this had been the right decision or not.
But now he couldn't change it anymore so he just decided to start cooking. He wanted to be finished early enough to take a little break before the others came by.
Meanwhile Ruki told Reita, who was conveniently staying at Ruki's apartment, everything and then he left Reita to his thoughts while contacting Uruha and Aoi.
All four of them were very happy that Kai wanted to meet them and Uruha just couldn't stop himself from getting a little present for Kai...the other's most loved chocolate.
They all met at 6 o'clock in front of Kai's apartment, no one really daring to knock.
In the end it was Aoi, who got the courage to finally knock at the door.
Moments later Kai opened the door a hesitant but warm smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Good evening.", he greeted them formally while figuring out who was who.
The other four just stepped inside, taking off their shoes.
Uruha also handed his present to Kai, whose eyes shone brightly at that and while he lead them to the kitchen he already opened the present.
They sat down at the already set table, an awkward silence setting down on them, for neither knew how to start a conversation.
After a few moments, though, Kai rose again to bring the food.
"It's nothing special, but I hope you like it anyway.", he said, while setting down everything.
It really wasn't that special, just normal chicken-curry, but they all were happy that, though Kai seemed to be oblivious to it, he had picked a meal that all of them, even Reita, liked. And also they were impressed that Kai had been able such delicious food with a broken arm.
They all said that and Kai blushed a little on getting so much praise for, to him, such a little thing.
They ate in silence, all waiting for someone to start a conversation.
Finally it was Ruki who couldn't stand the silence any longer and asked: "Say, Kai-kun. Are we like you thought we are?"
Kai looked up in confusion, trying to figure out where Ruki's question was leading, but he answered anyway. "I don't really know. You all seem to be very friendly and everything, but...I don't even know how I thought you'd be."
Ruki nodded and then Reita asked: "Did you find everything here?"
"Yes, I did...I also found some old photographs.", Kai answered and now all of them were curious.
"What kind of old photographs?", Uruha asked.
Kai thought about it a little and then said: "It seem to be some old parties. Don't really know. But there were other persons from the label like", he hesitated a split-second, not knowing how much his band mates knew, "Miyavi and Nao."
A somewhat knowing smile appeared on Aoi's face at then, but the others seemed to be oblivious to the hidden meaning of these words.
"Would you show us the pictures?", Reita asked. "We can tell you a bit about all of them."
Kai thought about it for a second, not really knowing what to answer, but then he remembered his terrible weakness of the morning and shook his head. "No", he answered. "I don't want to rush things", he added, after seeing the others confused face. "If I rush it my body...well...he dislikes it..."
The other just nodded in understanding and Ruki asked: "Do you have to go see the doctor?"
Kai thought about it and shook his head. "Not in the next time. There is an appointment in a week or so. And when I feel very bad he said I should go to him..."
He sighed and looked at the table's surface. He didn't like the worried looks all of them gave him every now and then. He didn't want them to see him that weak. To think he needed protection and everything. Well, okay...he needed it, but not that obvious.
When he looked at them again they looked even more worried but he sighed again. "Would you please stop looking at me like I'm going to crash down any second?", he complained and the others started at him in shock. They hadn't thought he'd notice.
"But...", Aoi started. "We worry about you.", Reita added.
Kai snorted: "I'm a grown man. You don't need to worry that much. I'm capable of taking care of myself."
Ruki nodded. "Okay, okay...", he tried to calm Kai down. This was a side the Kai they knew had usually kept hidden. "When will you come to the label again?", he then asked curiously.
Kai stayed silent for a while, feeling their curious looks on them. "I don't know...I'll see how I feel tomorrow and then I'll decide, okay?"
They nodded in unisono not wanting to rush things.
Kai smiled. They were all so concerned.
Soon they all moved to the comfortable living room. Kai had found a bottle of wine, which they now started to drink while talking about this and that.
Every now and then Kai felt his head spin or his heart tighten, when he felt that he lost track of things. But he also got a lot of small pieces of memory back. He was already able to recognize some parts of the past and it got more with every passing day. But the events that had taken place just a few days or weeks before his accident were still hidden behind thick fog or something like that. Successfully hindering him from remembering anything.
Around midnight the others finally left. Kai had thought about asking Aoi to stay, but he didn't dare to. Maybe he would call the other tomorrow.
