This past Friday gave me pause to re-consider my recent thoughts about purchasing a new car... the fancy one, with plenty of creature comforts, and the sunroof and the more-horsepower-than-a-V6-should-really-have engine. It would also be the one that's RWD (rear wheel drive) and the entire weight of the car could probably be lifted by me and a couple of the guys, if we put our minds to it. This was brought into bleak light, when there was a decent amount of snow that made it into Chicago and I got my no-weight-in-the-rear, RWD car stuck in a snow drift to the point where, after an hour off attempting to rock the car back and forth to get it out and the rear wheels just spinning in place, I go out in frustration and took the train home. It took me, two friends, and a random passer by the next day to get it dislodged.
Considering I've also been shown by a number of friends how bad of an investment a new car can be, what other things I could be dumping my money into... I may have come to agree with them. So, while I still want a smaller car than the Mark VIII I have now (that shouldn't be hard), I'll most likely be getting a slightly older model of something more modest than the
pretty little thang I was thinking about. My thoughts wander back to the Toyota Prius, but I'm not sure how much I'm into the hybrid at this point. Yes, they're good for the environment and their gas mileage is phenomenal, and I think everyone should own one... I just want to look at what else is out there. Like vehicles that have enough power (in the right places as well!) to make it over 6 inches of snow.
Ah well, at least I know of
one female that may appreciate it when I buy my compact, economy car.
