The spaniard has potential

Javi has a hipster-style thing going on, but he seemed one of the most down-to-earth philosophy heads I've ever met. He has a beautiful tattoo on his forearm (more of a pattern than a thing), and he wore a paisley tie with the silhouette of a bird on it (2 things I love: paisley and bird images). I had trouble 2 or 3 times understanding his accent, and the effort it took to pay attention while he was talking was more commitment than I usually like in social situations, but it was rewarding. He has a very nice humor about him, and I picked up easily on all his expressiveness. We're going out again Saturday.

James I met tonight. He is a real old-boy New Yorker. A real blue collar kid from Staten Island. And that has a lot of charm to me. He appreciates Brooklyn and respects its oddities. Of course his best friend is a cop and of course his dad used to work at Coney Island. He was very sweet and endeared me, but I didn't find myself attracted at all. He is shorter than me and has man bangs (you know, when some misguided men brush their hair forward, and the even more misguided ones gel it so it makes little, greasy forehead icicles [his weren't that bad]). I think perhaps his age, 22, didn't appeal much to me, either. He just graduated from college, and he's moving to Buenos Aires in 2 months to teach English there. If he had been superhott, maybe we could have had a short-lived fling. As it is, he had potential, but not for the short-term. That kind of lust has to be developed. He seemed to get my "I'm not that into you" vibe at the goodbye, and I feel a little blue about it, like I wish I could explain in a way that isn't hurtful.

And I sincerely hope how these dates go doesn't come down to depend on my moods, because I can so easily imagine that happening.
