I need to update about something, man!

Ouch. This lj has been neglected to the extreme. I'm now terrified that someday the moderators will call me with a shut-down message, so I'm going to post the only thing I have a surplus of. Story ideas!!

In this case, I'm referring to NANA, or at least, NANA as I perceived it.

For those of you who don't know, NANA is a captivating story about the lives of two girls, both named NANA. One is called Hachi for easier reference, because she is like a dog - she likes making people happy and always wants attention. The other NANA is a more down-to-earth girl who is lead singer in a J-rock band. The cast contains various portrayals of media industry in its most glaring light and the story is both realisitc and undeniably fashionable.

But you should already know all this right? So, on to MY version!! Comments and critisms always appreciated!!

NANA - Sore ga, sekai wo ongaku ni tsutsumu chikara... Soshite, futari no onna no ko no mongatari...

(NANA - that is, the power to subsume everything into song.... And, the story of two girls...)

The scene opens in a faraway land, and more specifically, in front of a news bulletin. It announces that in a years' time, a bomb will be dropped on Graceland (name stolen from Coyote Ragtim Show, this is why the story remains unpublished) that will destroy the entire continent. The newscaster goes on to elaborate on the state of the terrorist movement in Graceland, but the shot fades out.

Passing a wall of television screens showing this bulletin, a boy (this is Shouji or Hachi's evil two-timing boyfriend) comes across a strange sight - in his urbanised but quite out-of-the-way perfecture there is suddenly a field of flowers. (It will be revealed later that these flowers only grow on Graceland, and shouldn't be here.) Curious, he walks through them, and sees a girl lying in the blooms. There is blood streaming from her throat, but she appears to be struggling to breathe still.

Panicked, her puts her on his hover-cycle (like a motorcycle, but just hovers off the air) and brings her to the hospital.

Once there, they demand her identity, but she doesn't say anything... Then when asked what her dying wish is, for there is no way she will live, she says - "Give my love to Olivia." (Trapnest's singer, half-Russian chick with curly hair.)

The scene fades out.

It is apparent some time has passed, and the other Nana is sitting on the train. The girl from the starting scene comes up and says that she thinks Nana is sitting in her seat. Nana jumps up and tells her that she "was told that this is her seat". Both girls are confused - the seat has the passenger's name stuck to it, and it says "Nana".

The man next to Nana suddenly gets off at the next stop, leaving a seat free for the other Nana.

The two have a conversation, and a bit of background is explained. The J-rock looking Nana explains that NANA is not her, but a catch-all phrase for a young up-and-coming singer. It's called so after a girl called NANA shook the entertainment industry with the power of her voice. She was so famous that a movie about her 'life' was made - a movie called NANA: Within All Songs. This Nana loved the movie and her songs so much she started singing and is currently going to Tokyo for her big debut - a sequel of that movie is being made, called NANA: The Story of Two Girls. Nana is to star, as, well, Nana.

"Hachi" (in this version, Hachi introduces herself by this name, she's the girl in the first scene) asks more, and Nana reveals that Nana isn't her real name, but she "wants to be known as nothing but a blooming flower, I want to be Nana, and nothing but Nana, like the girl within all songs." Hence, she has 'thrown away' her old name, and refuses to tell Hachi what it is.

Upon hearing this, Hachi gets very angry, but her words are cut off by a terrorist attack on the train. The captain tells the girls to get out while they can - he stops the train and gets the two of them out safely. (Later, they realise that they were the only ones saved - because Nana will be starring as Nana, and of course that movie is not all that it seems.) Nana is supposed to find a certain person, but doesn't know where to go... Hachi leads her to The Stadium, where her songs as Nana are to be performed.

They both stand in front of the Stadium, holding hands, and then Hachi tells Nana "Koko wa sa... anata no stage na no yo... Haiyaku ike!" (This is ... your stage... go on!)

Nana stumbles forward... into Ren's arms. He is 'the person' whom she's supposed to meet, and her co-star and love interest in the movie. She turns around, but Hachi has vanished.

That's all the stage setting I'll be doing. The rest is the plot, in pure, unadulrated goodness. Here goes!!

Basically, the movie NANA is a front for the bombing attack. Because the terrorists are getting more and more powerful, the government can no longer rely on just dropping a bomb on Graceland. Hence, three years ago, a special bomb that can only be activated by voice was planted in Graceland by Yazu (the bald guy). In order to activate the bomb, they used a songstress - the former Nana. Through media manipulation and Nana's own powerful voice (she is potrayed god-like in the story, always wreathed in white), they made her a popular pop singer in Graceland and she was eventually invited over to the country for her next song - "A Little Pain"... The song which would activate the bomb in Graceland and kill the entire continent.

A specific and very difficult combination of notes must be sung to activate it - the notes are embedded into "A Little Pain". As the climax song of the first movie, Nana was actually 'living' the movie - her songs had to power to transport people into a world of delusions, and thus the girl herself seemed to always inhabit a fantastical world beyond human comprehension. (Nana is always shown with exotic animals or with white wings, you are not sure how much of her is real - think CLOVER by CLAMP.) But on the day of the concert, a young Graceland rebel (uhm, he's the young bassist in Nana's group... forgot the name) revealed to her the truth of the plot and to prove to her its truth, breaks a locket 'Olivia' gave to her. Nana believed Olivia to be a fellow singer, but the truth is Olivia is a mirage of Nana's own astronomical singing power - inside the locket is a voice amplification device. Olivia never existed, the singer Nana always heard was just... herself.

In that moment, Nana realised the truth. She gave the locket to Takumi (then her boyfriend/mentor, appears later as the tutor to the other Nana) and asked him to kill her. Though he was under surveillance from the government, Takumi did as he was asked and shot Nana at the height of her performance. (Later, tapes of Takumi shooting Nana will be used by Yazu to blackmail him into directing/producing the second Nana movie.) However, Nana had sung A Little Pain to the halfway point by then, and the bomb tried to explode... But instead only envelops Nana in white light, and the girl vanished.

No one knows accurately what happened. However, after the death of the singer, the Gaceland rebels became even more powerful, threatening the government's hold. Hence, there was no choice but to put the plan in action again... and get a new Nana for the next movie. This time, however, a counter-balance called Reira was implemented. Reira is like Olivia - a 'backup' singer who will support and if neccessary 'force' Nana into completing the song. (Note that now Olivia 'exists', as compared to before.)

Since only the people at the concert or otherwise involved in it can be involved in this one, unsurprisingly Takumi and Yazu come back, and bribe Shouji into revealing 'Hachi's' whereabouts - Takumi because he has fallen into a life a sin and thinks meeting her will bring atonement, Yazu because he needs to kill her. Also appearing is Ren, the bassist for the original Nana's group, who actually tried to protect her from the blast. But because he was at 'ground zero' during the incident, he has lost all his memories. But by the time they get there, Hachi has vanished from the hospital, leaving a locket with a voice-amplifier on her bed.

Hachi and Nana meet like in the above scene, and continue to see each other coincidentally. Hachi gradually becomes Nana's 'muse', giving her song inspiration and training her voice, though Hachi herself claims to be unable to sing. (Actually, Hachi is just unloading all the songs she wanted to sing before the Graceland incident on Nana.) Because of the promises between them, Nana doesn't reveal to the movie produces who Hachi is, but she promises Hachi that she will 'show her Nana's true power' in her songs.

In the meantime, Nana is slowly being 'indoctrinated' into her role as Nana for the movie - she is brainwashed in small doses into believing herself to be Nana and that she is a 'faultless princess'. The lines between fantasy and reality blur, and Nana begins to change more and more - becoming cruel and unconcerned with the world. Knowing what is happening, Hachi packs her bags and leaves for Graceland to hopefully undo the damage she did so long ago.

And... um... that's all I have worked out. Sorry!!
