StreetFest June '06: Fatal Fury Forever!!

My photos are cocking up and I can put this off no longer. So, here goes...

I'm really not good at writing this sort of thing. Even in grade school, when my teacher asked us to keep a diary, I would sit out on the back porch and try to write, but the sound of fists pounding against rice bags made me want to practice. Even when the sun had barely touched the roofing, Brother would already be practising. I remember his long shadow making strong, precise movements against the organe soil, and I would sit in the shade he provided and giggle to think that he didn't know I was there. Brother was so powerful!

He always looks so stern, and I remember that even when he ate rice and fish and miso soup that Mother cooked he always only ever said "Gouchisousama" and put the bowl down. Then he'd clean up. But that's Brother.

I must get him back. Even if he's a jerk, we're family.

When I followed Brother's footsteps I saw many places. They are strange and exotic, but I like the Chinese paper laterns and the late-night neon steetside lamps that Singapore has. They remind me of home, because I used to live in places like these shopfronts.

The festival I saw today was a strange one, and I was a bit scared of the noise. Only a bit! I'm Hotaru Futaba and I'm not scared of anything beause I know I can kick ass. But there were strange people in some sort of ritual black makeup, and they sang lots of songs about love and death. I don't get what's so interesting about them, but I don't want to look stupid and childish so I didn't ask. (I hated it when Kain-san laughed at me - he didn't understand what I was trying to tell him at all!) The singers and musicians all wore strange clothes, ripped like the flags I see in rundown villages and stained with dark colours. The songs echoed in my midn long after I'd heard them, too, but maybe it was just the noise. The lyrics got a bit messed up though, I heard someone singing "I SUCKED A FISH!" but that COULDN'T have been what he was saying, right?

But the best news is, I met up with Rock-san and B. Jennet-san!

B. Jennet-san told me she was trying to get her ship into port when PSA caught up with her. She told me that she could've outrun those policemen any day, but the winds she summoned were a BIT too powerful. I think it was her, uh, "that time of the month" but I don't ask about this sort of thing. She was really sweet, though, she helped me put on my makeup and tie my ribbons. They always get untied after I've been fighting.

Rock-san was very quiet, but kind. I like that about him - he doesn't say much, and he always seems to be carrying a dark, terribly burden, but he has never forgotten to show how he cares for people. I know what it's like to be on a quest and for the end to seem so terribly far off sometimes. We shared smiled and he said his greetings, but his back is always turned towards you, so that all you see is the crest on his jacket and the purple fire that bleeds from his soul. I know he is tortured by that power and the blood that gives it to him. But, Brother, Rock-san, you must never EVER forget where you came from...

I- I mean, just try to remember sometimes. Is it something only men can do, this whole "going off to adventure for a greater purpose" thing? Well, I don't like it because now I have to go and bring Brother back.

After emo-ing a few minutes on the steps, Rock-san told me that he wanted to have a match. There's no choice - I had to fight him! He's one step closer to whoever Brother's chasing after, so I have to get there before him!! It wasn't a conclusive fight, anyway, we were both holding back. He tried to kick me from the steps but a pretty girl with rollerskates took a photo of him at that time and he was blinded by the flash. Rock-san's a real gentleman, he didn't even get angry at her. He just kinda snatched his camera back and said "thanks".

Then B. Jennet-san wanted to fight too. She's very strong, but I think it was, uh, that time for her so she was only able to do her crouch moves. It wasn't good, I tell you! My kicks kept on flying above her head!!

To make us feel better, Rock-san put his arms around us and grinned in that "all-American-boy" way of his at the camera. Did I mention lots of people turned up to take photos? I didn't know why. But I realised that B. Jennet-san is taller than Rock-san... I don't know why he wasn't bothered by it. I would be, if I were him. But that was the best photo! Even better than the one where I was accused of smuggling Har Gao into Singapore - that was exciting, but not a very good thing.

Rock-san's features had started to close up again, and B. Jennet-san's smile had turned strained - I think she worries about 'her boys', even though she will NEVER say it - so we parted. It had been lots and lots of photos by that time, and B. Jennet-san wanted to go eat, and Rock-san simply had to go, so we split up to go our seperate roads.

But I think we will meet up soon again, on whatever destiny has been planned out for us, on whatever fate that we create with our fists and our hearts.

Brother, someday, I'll definitely....
