What happened to Spring?

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in the Jers it feels like Spring got bullied out of the natural scheme of things by Winter and now Summer. It's been a balmy and humid 70°F - 85°F for almost a week. I, like all cold blooded creatures, enjoy the heat and humidity. If I could lay around and sun myself all day without the risk of becoming a cancerous lobster, that is precisely what I would do.

However, I enjoy Spring. I like being eased into the balmy Jersey Summer. I need time to lose that last few inches to fit into my shorts from last Summer and even if I don't make it in time, I would really like there to be some leaves on the trees.

Since the Summer has decided to give Spring a mega swirlie, I've decided to just enjoy the weather by being outdoors as much as possible. Right now it's a chilly 65°F and as I pause in my writing, I look out the windows in front of my cube and want to go lay in the grass and read or nap. Screw cash monies, yo. Wait, scratch that. I have rent. When I get home though, I will be outside, sitting in the grass and reading (since my asshole neighbors are of the opinion that the ENTIRE front stoop belongs to them.) or tossing around a frisbee with Joe or Lichter or both.

Over the weekend we went to the Turtleback Zoo, which I haven't been to since I was a small kid. Emphasis on small. It was a quick drive into the Oranges and once we got there we had to park at the very top of the parking garage. Being clever and without children, we skipped the stroller derby for the elevator and opted for the sweltering wasp infested stairwell. We made it through, sans bee stings, and walked towards the front gate, hand in hand. An old woman with a heavy duty stroller rammed between us to beat us to the gate. Her mid 30's daughter scolded her for running me over and tossing Joe out of the way to which the woman proudly and indignantly exclaimed "I'm sorry! I'm just so excited!!". Once we made it through the gates however, the day was awesome. I made many furry, warm blooded acquaintances:

Squirrel Monkey, awoken from his nap by pesky children:

A sleepy Red Panda, who many adults told their children was a FOX despite there being a massive sign next to his pen clarifying that he is, indeed, a Red Panda:

An a sloth, who moves more quickly than you would imagine, especially when the lady sloth tries to bite him:

We spent almost two hours walking around and having forgotten sunscreen like dumb asses, acquired our honorary first sun burns of the season. We stopped by Jimmy Buff's in Livingston to get the best hot dogs in Jersey (in our opinions, anyway):

After we got home, we relaxed a bit and Joe went out to his car to work on some project or another (he has several) and he spied the ice cream truck driving down to the cul-de-sac at the end of our road and texted me. I grabbed my cash and ran down the road like a 10 year old. The chipwiches command me! I only seem to be able to catch the ice cream man two or three times over the summer, because he always comes at a different time every day and won't come down our road if enough kids aren't outside. This time I returned to the apartment victorious.

Sunday we played kickball in the park with some of our friends. I didn't realise how much effort goes into playing kickball! My thighs are still sore and it's now Thursday! I mean, there were only 7 people total, so the teams were really small but even so, kick ball kicked my ass. No wonder I was such a scrawny kid.
