Where I rant about Mary Sues...

And Mary was the Doctor's sister, daughter, mother, bestest friend ever (except for Rose)No, wait. Mary was practically perfect in every way. She's got the Doctor's wit, Jack's flirty nature, brain the size of a small planet and she saves the world every second in between serving as yenta to get the Doctor and Rose together (because it's meant to ( Read more... )

LOL. I love it. And what's fantastic in this fandom is that it's quite possible for an existing Time Lord/Lady to regenerate into a Mary Sue/Gary Stu, isn't it?

I haven't seen much in the ways of Mary Sues lately, but I only linger around T & C. Have they been popping up elsewhere?

Remind me to tell you about how inspired I was to draw something Torchwood/X-Files-ish after I posted those pictures in my journal.

Well... I sort of just told you. =^^=

*grins* It's been rather rampant on Teaspoon, actually. Though there was a glaring instance on T&C recently.

Oooh! Torchwood/X-Files-ish? Crossover! Jack flirting with Scully and Mulder getting annoyed? *g* Or Owen offering to show Scully his autopsy lab, and Mulder fighting him off? *g*

Oh, was there? Maybe I had my Badness Filter on that day and I breezed over it. Or something.

You read me like an open book! I think Mulder would get even more annoyed if Scully actually enjoyed Jack's flirting. I mean, c'mon! Who wouldn't?

There HAS to be a Torchwood/X-Files crossover in existence, right? Is it too much to ask for one? Or that it's good?

How 'bout Jack flirting with Mulder and Mulder getting annoyed. While Scully tries to hide her amusement.

Of course she doesn't believe any of this nonsense about time rifts and aliens...

how about canon characters becoming Sues to suit the author? That happens too.

I can always tell from the plot synopsis and character listing whether there is going to be a rampaging Sue in a fic - Cast of characters: The Tenth Doctor, Rose, Jack, and Minerva, a plucky highschool student coming along on the TARDIS

Ooog, yes. Even more disgusting, IMO, because you go in expecting the characters you know, and end up looking at a train wreck with familiar faces.

There's also the Rose is gone, and the devastated Doctor finds a new friend who helps to heal his wounded heart fics. Another scroll-past indicator, that one...

It is scary to say I find this entry inspiring? (And I don't say that about much these days).

Oh, man. I know I violated at least rule 9...though that wasn't the intent in the beginning. (I blame Jack for that. It's his fault! Kit was minding her own business...)

I know for myself, I always tremble in fear of committing Mary-Sueism.

Spooky, (and sorry!) I did think of you when I read rule 9 too. I don't care I like it anyway. So there. (I really need to spend more time with grown-ups ;) )

Violating one "rule" doesn't mean the character's a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. Now if you're violating several at once with the same character? Warning signs ;)

While I love the post, I do have to point out regarding #9 that anyone *can* have Jack... preferably in a group, and twice on weekends!

Now, Jack suddenly going all monogamous and stuff for them - now *that's* when we hit Marysue territory!

Oh, true enough. :) But when it's really that whoever Gary/Mary is, they're settling for second best...well, that's rather dangerous. Especially if, as you said, Jack suddenly becomes monogamous. ;)
