Pit Stop [for Gibbs]

Oct 28, 2008 12:11

Tom has spent the last few days on Shell Beach, trying to get his memories in order. It hasn't been easy, but long walks on the boardwalk have helped. Part of him misses his sister, knowing she's just a few streets away, but most of him relishes this time alone.

After a while, though, he starts wondering about the City itself. Staring out into the ocean, he finds it hard to believe that he's on a space station powered by giant machines. So he hops on a bus heading downtown, and eventually finds himself standing on a deserted city block. It looks like just another construction project surrounded by a fence, but he knows that underneath somewhere, there are gears turning, keeping the City running.

He lights up a cigarette and wanders around the perimeter of the fence, thinking about things.
