Tom's Last Stand

Oct 13, 2008 13:03

The past couple of months have not been good to Tom.

He's lost weight. He's barely slept in weeks. He looks more like a ghost than a man. It doesn't help that he spends nearly all his time in his apartment, drawing spirals on the walls and looking for secret messages in old newspapers. He had been keeping an eye on Schreber, but at some point even that was too risky.

He has no wife to make sure he eats. He has no former partner to check in on him. He doesn't have anybody.

What good is the truth if it's worse than the lie?

When the carnival comes, he ventures out for a new pack of smokes and a chance to see what all the fuss was about. He isn't there for long, but then he sees him.

Schreber. The man who caused all this. Look at him, smiling and happy, without a care in the world. With a girlfriend, with friends.

With her.

Oh God. Oh God oh God it's her. Her hair is different but it's her and she's come back to kill him come back to get even she and the Doctor are in it together and they're all coming for him he can hear the planes --

He runs away as fast as he can, runs home and grabs his gun, then heads for the beach house.

He's going to end this. One way or another.
