Also because I came out of the finale with massive Lieutenant feels, so this meme is going to be about him.

Don't think I can't see those surprised faces.

So!  Give me a prompt about the Lieutenant, AU or otherwise. The only prompts I will ignore are repeated ones, and anything about him being an ex-bender

When he thought back over the years, it was the fires that pushed him over the edge.

An older couple who ran a bookstore had refused to pay a protection fee to the Faultline Triad Group. In retaliation, the Faultlines had not only set fire to the store, they had done it in such a way that the Agni Kais received the blame.

It was sheer luck that had had Amon, the Lieutenant, and Sato nearby that night. Working quickly, they were able to rescue the couple -- but they couldn't stop the fire from spreading and taking five blocks with it before waterbenders arrived.

Despite their best efforts, seven people died; fifty more were severely injured. None could afford a waterbender-healer.

While the Lieutenant took note of the injured so he could see them through their recoveries, his companions prowled the site of the fire. It was Amon who noted the spark rocks; Sato who found the places where the foundations had been weakened.

The police refused to listen to Sato when he tried to explain that, for once, the Agni Kais had had nothing to do with arson, despite his place in the hierarchy of the city -- and despite his past. Sato had every reason to hate the Agni Kais, the Lieutenant well knew. You'd think the police would stop to think when he pointed out they were framed.

"Just equality isn't enough," Sato said, voice raspy from smoke inhalation. "Bending is too easy to abuse. We've all seen that."

The Lieutenant slammed fist into palm. "If only there was a way to show them what it's like not to bend."

"There is," Amon said quietly.

The other two men looked over at him. "Only the Avatar can do that," Sato said after a moment, uncertain.

"Do what?" the Lieutenant asked.

"Years ago, the Avatar removed the bending of a criminal named Yakone," Amon explained. "And it is not exclusive to the Avatar. I, too, possess this gift."

The Lieutenant felt his jaw fall open. The world was suddenly full of crystalline possibilities.

Daaang, this is lovely. I love seeing how the three equalist main guys interact and seeing more with the triads and Amon seeing a possibility and leaping on it!
