This evening I was at Stacy's house with her and Teresa and Victor and Chris and the Emilies, and we were watching Planet Earth and generally hanging out. Someone mentioned our friend Adam Higuera (in Ann Arbor) who used to have long hair but recently cut it.
And this is basically what happened after that:
"Wait, Adam cut his hair?"
"Oh my God are you serious?"
"You mean Adam cut his hair?"
"OUR Adam?"
"What does he look like?"
"Did someone say Adam cut his hair???"
Finally it was clarified that we meant Adam Higuera, not Adam Davis, and rapidly palpitating hearts calmed down.
Also, since Megan did the Paranoia Meme I did it too...unfortunately I didn't have anything especially unpleasant to say to anyone, so the meme might lack a bit of paranoia. It's very upsetting, no?
1. One book that changed your life.
The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien. Ok so it's actually a trilogy, not "one book", but I can honestly say that LOTR is one of the most wonderfully gripping stories I have ever read. And I loved it before Peter Jackson made the movies.
2. One book you have read more than once.
The Hound of the Baskervilles - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. What an excellent novel! It combines all of my favorite elements - mystery, murder, suspense, and a spectral hellhound.
3. One book you would want on a desert island.
The Golden Compass. I'm currently reading it and I really like it!
4. One book that made you laugh.
Arrow of the Blue Skinned God - Jonah Blank. At one point he talks about how Indian entrepreneurs give their establishments absurdly lewd names (such as a hair salon called "Cleopatra's Pleasure Palace")
5. One book that made you cry.
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini. I don't know that it actually made me cry, but I got pretty damn close.
6. One book you wish had been written.
A truly moving novel about the Indian freedom fight. I know there are books about it, but none of them strikes me as classic.
7. One book you wish had never been written.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J.K. Rowling
8. One book you are currently reading.
Shock Doctrine - Naomi Klein
Fun Paranoia Meme
I did this a few weeks ago and then took it down, but I'm doing it again because it's just so darn fun. Also because there are lots of things in my head right now that I'd like to say to people.
1. Your unbelievable levels of intelligence and ambition make me feel very inadequate, but I am extremely proud of you and your awesomeness.
2. At some point I'm going to have to tell you something that I really don't want to ever have to tell you, and I'm too lily-livered to even write it here, because I know you'll start speculating.
3. I actually like you a hell of a lot more than I did at this point last year. I think we've both matured a lot.
4. Sometimes I start these "anonymous comment" memes with the express purpose of articulating some festering grievance related to you, but I'm really not feeling very aggressive at the moment.
5. Our friendship has improved a ton in the past few months - it's really swell.
6. I like you a lot. I'm just really worried that you don't like me. I guess we'll find out next semester, eh?
7. You know, number 5 could apply to a very large number of you.
8. I had a massive crush on you in high school. It's weird that we haven't seen each other in over six months.
9. You're one of the people whom I anticipate still being friends with when I'm 50 and unemployed and forlornly playing my harmonica on the streets of some crowded anonymous city.
10. I wonder why you put up with me, but I'm glad you do because you're pretty awesome.
