Directions of Destiny

Apr 13, 2007 08:22

The rhythmic sounds of the air conditioner keep time as my mind wanders, patiently waiting for the clock to once again say 'I'm done'... only this time it will be it's last.  As of tommorrow, I will no longer be working as a tutor on the college campus.  On Monday, I begin something new.  Whether 'destiny' had any hand in directing me to this new place has yet to be debated,  however it is still a small source of light streaking through a layer of gray clouds.  I've kept it quiet for quite awhile from a great many people because I hate 'counting chickens before they hatch' and all that, but I figure it's safe to let it out now.  So rather than tell every single person individually, I'm going to list the details here to make it easier.

The Pros:

- it counts as a real, full-time entry level job for the resume
- I finally get full benefits and dental again (yay me ^^)
- it's a lot more money than I've been making thus far
- it's very casual ( I can wear jeans and decent shirts to work)
- is on the borderline for being useful towards future jobs in the more artsy side of things

The Cons:

- it involves a 50 minute commute to Norwalk, CT (bring it on, stalkers)
- from what I can understand, I'm going to be doing lots of web coding and scripting
- no designing/drawing whatsover
- is on the resume borderline for switching to an artsy job later (see above)

That about covers it.  My worries are that I may not be able to do all the scripting they need and that since 'career paths' on resumes are so bitchy these days that this job might not really count down the road when I want to get back into the art side.  So far everyone's been telling me I'm insane and that I'll be able to do everything plus be able to use it later.  I hope so ~_~.  No, I will not tell you how much I'll be making - it's a lot more than I'm currently making but still under what I should be making due to my 'mad skillz'.  This, in part, is because the company had to purchase me from the 'contracting firm' I was setup with.  Hopefully that means if I do well my salary will go up next year >.>.  Other than all that I'd say I'm a little relieved and feel a bit of the stress gone.  And to all those that are wondering about the commute, it's a 50ish minute drive with free parking.  In comparison, for me to work in Manhattan equals a 1.5 hr commute with trains and such, no free parking.  So, honestly, it's not that bad.  ^^

In Other News:

Father came into town for the past week to handle some family issues.  Just what my family needed.... more issues.  Oh and my father's mom is now officially a schizo (she was finally diagnosed awhile back).  We always knew, but now it's backed by medicine - fun times.

Cliche TV News Reporter:  You've got a new job, even more issues, and your surviving grandma's a psycho!  What are you going to do now??

Me: Run away!
