It is time for a....
MASSIVE UPDATE!!!!
Lot's of stuff been going on, and there is no real way I can sum it all or even cover it, so I won't.
I'll just stick to the easy and immediate stuff.
I've decided to break down and buy a Xbox 360. Just recently, 3 games that I'm VERY interested in playing have come out and they are all Xbox exclusive. Plus, after hearing some more about the problems the PS3 will be facing, I'm thinking I'll just wait a year after it's released and see if I'm still interested before buying it.
What else?
DRAGONCON just ended for me. I had a blast! I pretty much always do. This year, in the Dark Confrontation LARP I always play, I played a VERY grumpy old man who could not die. That was amazingly fun for me. I had written the concept myself (which the DarkCon staff then altered for me) and had a ball using the old man voice all weekend long. Plus, threatening to dance naked unless I got my way was just fun and outrageous enough to keep myself entertained in those moments I found myself a little bored. Following through with those threats were even more fun, for some reason, people are afraid of 5,000 year old testicles. (And for those who read this and don't know what DarkCon is, I'll just say that I ACTED like I was dancing naked).
I now know for sure that I HAVE to play over the top characters, otherwise I don't have all the fun I should have in DarkCon.
Let's see....
I start back on my Master's tomorrow (or today rather). After attending some panels at DragonCon (I didn't JUST play DarkCon), and talking with Marty (one of the DarkCon refs (and a Groovy one at that) who works as a level designer in the game industry), I have regained my hope and inspiration for getting into the industry myself. I'll try to keep this updated as to how that is going on.
Quick additional notes:
* If you haven't seen Red vs Blue, YOU NEED TO!!! I don't play Halo, and I STILL think the series is fucking hilarious. I picked up Season 3 on DVD while I was at the con.
* I picked up Zombies 5: School's Out Forever, the latest expansion for one of the greatest board games of all time. Nothing is EVER quite as fun as smashing some zombie heads.
* While at DragonCon, I saw a company that makes replicas of the Organization XIII robes from Kingdom Hearts 2. ME WANT!! ME WANT!!! They also have the Silent Bob trenchcoat, Vash the Stampede, and others.
* I saw a couple of HOT young women dressed as Tifa and Aeris from Final Fantasy VII... then I saw their boyfriends.... *sigh* Paula is safe a little while longer. ;)
* Neverwinter Nights 2 hits soon(ish)... I'll probably immediately start developing the Travelers' Tales universe as a mod for it. :)
* I think I've found my new costume for next year...
One final note.
I would say that for the past 3-4 months, my life has felt like chaos and decay (if those two together make sense). Now that things seem to be getting better for me, both professionally and mentally, I find out that a NUMBER of my friends were beginning to get some chaos in their lives. Sorry guys, I guess I was hording all the chaos for myself and now it's catching up to all of you.
Seriously though, anyone who knows how to get to this journal is LIKELY here because you're someone I consider a friend. As such, if anyone needs anything, let me know. If nothing else, I have a WONDERFUL set of ears.
