Haven series finale

Anyone want to talk about the Haven series finale?

There are a lot of things I didn't like about it, so I'm sorry if you loved it, but these are mostly complaints. It had some good things, but these are things that I could have done without:

-What happened to Duke. So a lot of people predicted Duke wouldn't survive, but I was still annoyed by his character dying. It definitely felt like a decision made to pull heartstrings. And I didn't believe Nathan and Audrey would go along with it without much more of a fight - they don't care about impossible odds and they haven't learned to no matter how many times they fail, so I didn't buy it. And just because of a variety of shows, I'm sick of characters getting killed off for the emotional value of it. And ghost!Duke did not make it any better, made no sense, and was clearly only there so the character/actor could be in the finale since it would feel weird if he weren't. That said, they made the dying as ot3 as they could POSSIBLY make it, I grudgingly see why they wanted to reveal which Guard killed Duke, and that Duke chose death instead of being used was good.

-Dwight's daughter was not handled well at all. They implied she might be like the Audrey copy, and that she'll only stay if Dwight believes she's real, which suggests that she is NOT real and has no existence outside her father's desires, which makes it all kinds of fucked up that she stays and he lives his life raising her. If she is real, then was the Audrey copy real too, and did she give her life, and isn't that fucked up too? And why two female characters specifically created to test/alleviate manpain? This show, despite all my love for kickass Audrey, is not great on gender -- I predicted Charlotte would get killed long ago, just because that's what always happens to female characters who aren't Audrey (Gloria, being in a different age range and a supporting humorous character, I guess is the only exception among the regulars?).

-The barn needing love made no sense. Did the aether core have love? The logic makes no sense. Also, Shatner-dad doesn't have love, but he loves enough to leave Haven, but then he doesn't have enough love to make the barn work? And why love??? NO logic, obviously just hand waving it so Audrey has to go in.

-Where is William? You bring him back for an ep, release him, and he's nowhere?

-I'm not at all surprised that Audrey came back as someone else. In some ways, it's a really fitting end, but I think this show has been all over the place with the whole "are different personalities different people or not?" issue, and maybe they thought they were showing the complexity of that question, but it feels again kind of hand wavey to talk about how real Audrey is and then go back into that thing, that a lot of ppl in fandom took issue with, that Nathan seems to be into sleeping with non-Audrey versions while presumably the reason is that he loves a woman who shares the same body. (And if he loves their inner goodness and the real person inside the persona and that's why, then what about Mara?) I didn't hate this ending, since like I said, it's a fitting end for this show's premise, but I had mixed feelings.

-What I really hated: Vince spending possibly forever with the guy who killed Dave. Really????

-What I would have liked to see: Audrey finally figuring out how to wield the fucking aether and using it to help people and/or kick some Croatoan ass. Nathan, Duke and Audrey together in a non-troubled world. Croatoan getting his ass kicked by anyone. More explanation of wtf world Croatoan and Mara came from.

What I liked:

Nathan telling Duke it was going to be all right, when clearly he knew it wasn't.

Humor: Dwight's friend joking that he enjoyed shooting at him, Dwight saying Duke was kind of a dick.

Fake Audrey taking Nathan past the shroud, knowing what it means.

They beat the Troubles.

The montage of people losing their Troubles/magical curses - the Jason Priestly character so relieved, the guy seeing Haven re-appear on the map.
