Studying/The Truth

Apr 13, 2006 17:10

I just had my phone interview for "The Truth" - a non-profit U.S. organization that is responsible for numerous anti-smoking marketing campaigns geared towards youth. It lasted all but 10 mins and consisted of the typical interview questions, "what special talents do you have?" - "Give 3 reasons why you're the best candidate for this job," and the not-so-typical questions, "name 4 genres of music and why they suit your personality."
I think I did fairly well... though I was kinda inarticulate thanks to my nervousness... ex: "uhhh, ummm, hmmm." I'm not so good at thinking on the spot like that without deliberation and trying to convince someone that I AM is a little tough.

Anyway, so you probably don't even know what I'm talking about. The Truth is looking for people to go on the VANS WARPED TOUR all across the U.S. and Canada and spread information about The Truth (anti-tobacco facts and so forth). I'd be gone from June-August on the TOUR. Fucking insane? yes. This was the 2nd round of interviews as I was selected after they viewed my online application - the next (if I make it passed this round) is a face-to-face interview in New York City!!! I've never been, so even if I don't get the job, it'd be an awesome trip, that's for sure. They're going to get back to me by April.21 to let me know whether I made it or not. the interviews in New York are from May 16-20, so that would be pretty cool.
The only thing that sucks is that I need to find my own way down there. Oh well. At least it's not Atlanta, Georgia.

Who would have thought that anthropology and specifically, my anthropology of health class, could get me into something like this. The answer that I think I nailed was one of the reasons why they should pick me, "I think mostly because my area of study, which is in anthropology, directly correlates to the tobacco industry. I mean, we looked at pharmaceautical industries and how they exploit the same tactics that Big Tobacco does when it comes to the proliferation of advertising and marketing schemes. I think I can bring a unique critical anthropological perspective to The Truth."

Anyway, I have a test to go write in 40 mins, so I'm out. It's not going to go well, but I don't even care.

EDIT: I don't know if it's just a good day or something, but the test actually didn't go that badly. And I got a 63% on what was perhaps one of the shittiest papers I've ever written (it was a 68% but I had a 5% late penalty after I forgot what day it was due. hahaha). I'm going to end up with a degree that I don't even deserve.
