Life in Every Breath

I just got back from film class after watching 2001: A Space Oydessy. I'm probably going to nap for a bit because after watching a documentary on the history of tattooing followed by an episode of Miami Ink followed by the movie "The Fugative" in its entirety, I was up until 4am. I didn't realize how awesome The Fugative is, seeing as the last time I saw it, I was probably 10. There were many times when I was like, "ok, I want to sleep.... but... I want to see what happens after this commercial..."

So 2001. Another type of movie entirely. Kubrick annoys me sometimes but I respect his originality and non-conforming ways. He creates great atmosphere and emotion through appropriate use of sound as well as music. Though I find that some of his movies, including this one (as well as maybe The Shining and arguably A.I.) lack substance and fail to do the original novel justice. But whatever. I liked it overall, even though the H.A.L. portion of the storyline seemed a little forced. I was more interested in seeing what happened to the inhabitants on the Clavius settlement. But Kubrick seemed to employ the same technique he used in Full Metal Jacket - the whole 2-part story deal. Whatever, I'll stop now.
EDIT: Though after spending an hour doing some internet research on the film and reading a couple essays, it does make more sense, though it is still quite cryptic for the casual viewer to grasp. It works though, in a strange way. Except for the ending. I think it could use more interpretation.

I work tonight. I might need sleep or else risk being rude to more customers and putting my job in jeopardy. I really gotta stop doing that.

I can't think right now. I picked up the Mega Man X Collection last weekend and it rules. I'm at the last boss in X3. Fuck yeah. I did brownies at Cabatan's place on Tuesday night and it was a lot of fun. We ended up at Fran's 24 hour diner at 3am which was a treat. I'm pretty sure I said some stupid stuff like always but I'm also pretty sure that I enjoy the high that comes from ingesting marijuana into my stomach lining every couple months.
I finally got my staff discount at HMV so now I can get tons and tons and tons of shit for really cheap. Case in point: last Saturday I bought 9 cds and 1 DVD. for a total of $132 after tax. That's roughly $13 per item. So badass. I did some back-catalouge collecting of cds I've been meaning to get for a long time, including:

Nevermore - This Godless Endeavour
Protest The Hero - Kezia
Between The Buried And Me - Self-titled
Between The Buried And Me - Silent Circus
Between The Buried And Me - Alaska
Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity
Dillinger Escape Plan - Irony Is A Dead Scene
Every Time I Die - Burial Plot Bidding War
Every Time I Die - Last Night in Town

All are albums I've previously owned on purely electronic mediums, but ones I've been wanting to get for a while.
I also bought "The Last Samurai" because I had been craving to see it, for it is a) a badass movie and b) only $10 with discount. Fuck, I love it.
Point being, if anyone would like any requests, immediate or delayed, then feel free to ask me and I'll give you a quote on any item and what it'll cost you. Then I can pick it up for you, if you'd like.
Derek Out.
