ME | 23 | This Thing Called Real Life |
whatwedo I fell down on about fifty plots and I had to scramble for reqs. Both are things I don't like doing. I had a fairly debilitating case of writer's block this month, and while I think things are finally starting to clear up, I have a lot of catching up to do.
PETER PARKER | 30 | The Amazing Spider-Man |
daretodo I'm starting to worry that Peter's too isolated. I've got a lot of my eggs in one basket right now -- an awesome basket, granted, but still a singular one -- and it's making me a bit antsy. I mean, the reason I've kept him limited to private threads is that he's such a plot-driven character that I don't want to risk something deviating him from whatever it is I've got planned next, but I should really make an effort to tag him around more, because on paper, he knows a lot of people. While I stand by my decision to put him on the backburner following MJ's disappearance, it's high time to socialize him again, even with the plot he has on the horizon.
Out of my entire roster, Pete's always the one I stress most about getting right, and while I could easily play him in my sleep at this point, I think I ought to take more care in playing him while I'm awake, so to speak. He's the guy on all the Marvel stationary. He should be a bigger presence than he is.
Halloween: Hopefully taking out killer toys with Wolverine?
EPs: He hasn't had one since May, so he's probably due. Maybe one of his classes.
Goals: Tag at least two new characters.
JAMIE MADROX | 32 | X-Factor |
howmanylives Well, Rahne just disappeared, which puts Jamie in the place he works best in: disappointment and anger. If nothing else, he's the loudest he's been in a while, which is nice, even if it took some unfortunate circumstances to get him there. That's the noir factor, I guess.
Moving along! With school back in session, I was considering having him put on another show; I thought it could be neat if the various art and fine arts classes worked together to put on some kind of winter performance -- A Christmas Carol, most likely -- with auditions open to the population at large. Would there be interest in something like this?
EPs: Yes, on the 1st.
Goals: Tag at least one new character and foster the acquaintances he has at present into something closer to actual friendship.
BUCKY BARNES | 86 | Captain America |
onlyapassenger Bucky's been caught up in a bunch of pre-play for November this month, to the point where I kind of forgot I hadn't actually played him in September until, oh, this past week. I swear, my mind's been everywhere but where it needs to be lately. While Bucky is a character like Pete in that I can play him in my sleep, he's also intense to the point where he's exhausting to write at times. He has a very particular way of thinking -- one a helluva lot different from my own -- and staying in that mindset for too long is draining. As a result, I've felt a little off with him lately, not hard hitting enough and certainly not active enough.
I have a small ITF plot for December that I'd like to submit, but I think I need to brainstorm a bit more before I do so.
EPs: God, the last one he had was with Steve, I think, months ago, and it didn't draw a lot of threads, if I recall correctly. I probably should give him an EP this month, but it might be to my advantage to just tag him around instead.
Goals: Tag one new person and at least three of his acquaintances.
MATT MURDOCK | 33 | Daredevil |
hasnobullets Matt, Matt, Matt. Look, I love my canons. That's actually a requirement for me to able to play a character, because I learned the hard way that if I don't love the canon, I can't sustain the character for long. And in terms of overall quality, Daredevil is easily the best comic I've apped from, hands down; everyone should be reading Mark Waid's new run (it's only 4 issues in!), it's seriously fantastic (and refreshingly upbeat). This is an SotP, though, and not a canon pimping meme, so let's get down to business.
I put Matt into speed dating, which was fun and could potentially prove fruitful, but the longer I play him, the more it becomes obvious to me that Matt needs a bro in a bad way. I mean, him and Pete interact in my head all the time, but I'm always too lazy to actually put their conversations IG (which reminds me that I still have that one-shot to write, and given that it's actually important, I should put it on my nonexistent to-do list), and ideally, I'd like if his closest friendship wasn't someone I play, yanno?
In the coming months, though, I'd really like to do something with Daredevil instead of just Matt. The dude is a certified badass, and he hasn't really had a chance to shine in that department. If nothing else, I'd like someone to find him out.
EPs: Probably not. I tend to EP him and not tag him around, and maybe I should try swapping that around this month.
Goals: Solidifying friendships. Making new ones.
THOR ODINSON | 1000+ | Thor |
havenoplans True story: I bought a blu-ray player just so I could have every shred of knowledge I could have about his canon. (On this note, the deleted scenes are adorable.) Also, I make a point of reading all the tidbits I can find about his role in The Avengers so I don't get totally Jossed come May. (Literally.) Thus far, my interpretation seems to be holding sound -- sigh of relief! -- but I'll admit to being a bit hesitant about making any sort of declarations about his background.
This is all to say that I haven't really gotten him as settled as I'd like, though getting a Loki definitely solidified his voice in my head. He's started building his new place, finally, a bit of background I am shamelessly stealing from the comics, because the filmmakers quoted that run, specifically, as being influential on their take on the character, so, you know, gonna run with that.
He's another one I'd like to tag around more, since his connections page is pretty, uh, barren, for a character who's been around since May; I need to man up and start giving him more interactions, particularly since I have the barebones Idea for an island-wide event centered around him for the middle of next year. (NOTE: I have NOT discussed this with anyone. It currently exists only as a series of notes in a notepad. It needs more thinking.)
EPs: I suspect his last EP was a bust just because of timing, but it does make me reluctant to EP him again when he doesn't have all that many connections to begin with. Maybe I'll do both; EP and tag around.
Goals: Bolster his connections. Tag at least three new characters.
Random Request: Would anyone be willing to make icons for me? Thor is a gorgeous movie and I know where there are some beautiful hi-res screencaps, I just... Have very little inspiration for graphics these days, and can't be bothered to icon it myself.
CHARLES XAVIER | 30 | X-Men: First Class |
thebettermen Basically take everything I just said about Thor, and rinse, wash, and repeat. Granted, Xavier has more connections than Thor, at the moment, but I've sort of stalled on my main plot idea for him, because I keep getting stupidly nervous about sending out this plot email (that I haven't even written yet) in regards to the house I want him to build. I'm putting this here in the hopes that someone will bug me enough to actually send the damn thing, because I'd like to get the ball rolling on this before November.
In a lot of ways, Charles suffered the most from my flaking this month, and I'd like to make it up to the dude in October. He'll be tagging along on Erik's timeloop soon, so there's that to look forward, at least (more so for me than for him, granted), and I'd like him to start on his thesis so he can join the psych staff.
Goals: Tag at least three new characters. Thread more with Erik and Hank.
Random Request: I don't have screencaps for First Class (though I could probably find some), but the same request as for Thor, re: icons? Please?
DAMIAN WAYNE | 10 | Batman and Robin |
aworthyone SURPRISE, MOTHERFUCKERS. Okay, so... All of three people even knew that I was considering Damian. This is because I inhaled about 100 issues of canon, fell in love with a character who hated all the same things I hated, and had a bit of an identity crisis over the course of a couple of weeks.
Not gonna lie, it is really weird not being the de facto person in charge of a canon. Also, having a different table at the bottom of one of my wiki pages. I mean, excited as I am to be playing the troll, I'm also reeling a little. The last time I had this quick of a turnaround was with... Well, actually, quick turnarounds are par for the course, I'm just so comfortable with Marvel in general that it doesn't really matter any more. I had a lot of reasons for wanting to play Damian -- too many to list in my app, even, which is always a good sign for me -- but one of them was that I felt like a bit of a joke. I probably shouldn't be so self-conscious about who I play -- we're drawn to who we're drawn to -- but... Yeah, I don't know. I don't regret apping him, even if I do feel a little traitorous.
EPs: Yes, definitely. He's new, he needs connections.
Halloween: I'd really love to do a Bat team-up against the killer toys, so... That, I guess.
Goals: Just getting him out there and making him visible.
THE FUTURE | P6 | Marvel Comics
I currently have AMADEUS CHO on reserve, because I love his face. But while I have a LOT of ideas for Amadeus -- I particularly love that he's a trickster archetype, for example, because there's been an interesting development in Fear Itself where he's shown himself to be a Loki type figure in bringing together a group of young heroes -- I do wonder if he isn't a bit too similar in temperament to characters I already play.
(Also, the fact that he debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15, vol.2 and rides a Vespa wrinkles my brain a little. However, I do think there are plots I could with him that I couldn't do with, say, Pete, who is the most similar, so... I don't know. I might play a lot of superheroes, but I'm careful to make sure they don't have the same motivations so that I don't end up telling the same story over and over again.)
My other option for P6 is a girl with significantly more canon, and also a Marvel. I have a lot of ideas for her, as well, but as I've designated October my month to read (and reread) all things Spider-Man, I very much doubt I'll have the time to get through the main runs of her canon before the end of the year.
