Well -- it's been a long time, but now that I have finished my crazy overtime, it is costume time.

Again, sort of the last minute -- but, much less complicated now than before.

Unfortunately Caitlin isn't coming to AFO. However if you think Vic will remember to bring it to me give it to him. I will be seeing him on the 4th the day after mine and Travis' birthday. Otherwise if you go to Otakon that weekend Caitlin will be there but I won't be seeing her until November, how sad it that. Or if the Vic thing doesn't work out my address is 1123 Industrial Ave, Escondido, CA 92029 (this is NOT my home) just where I have this type of mail sent ( ... )

Miss Helen,

Yes. 'Tis true. I have quite a lot of nerve. And, apparently, so do you! I LOVE it!

OK--searching for your private email -- I know it's here somewhere *sweat drop*

Hey... are you like, just getting time off for AFO?
Or do you have work off beforehand, because my mom said she'd pay for a hotel, to get some rest on the way up. I think she suggested that to you before, though...

ah..turning point..hmmm...would have to be 4 years ago. I was working on a degree for Secondary Math Teaching. Then out of the blue I am like..."I love math..just don't like high school kids and I hate school so why go to it the rest of my life?" So now I am going to be an Actuary and I graduate in December....I am so excitied...gonna make tons more money than a teacher!

Actuary instead of Teacher. dareedo July 24 2006, 22:26:45 UTC
Mandy, it surprises me that you don't like HS kids -- but, those are the kinds of things I'm talking about. You took a turn most people wouldn't take (although -- honestly, it is soo cool). Actuarial sciences are way beyond me -- I really admire people who can achieve that. What a great turning point!

Thanks so much for sharing with me.

Hey!!! That's ME in that first picture!!!! HA HA HA!!! Glad to have friended you here on LJ!! It was great meeting you at AFO. I had SUCH a good time there!

My "turning point" story is this:

For 8 years I worked at a private university in the admission office. I was an Assiociate Director and by the time I left, I was the Interim Director. I was making good money, had a title, people who reported to me, a good reputation in the State in higher ed as well as on a National Level, having presented on several forums at National conventions. I got to travel all over the U.S. and we could afford the nicer things in life.

But I was miserable. The stress was killing me and I HATED my boss. So, in March of this year I quit. I now work part-time at barnes & Noble [which is what I did BEFORE I had this other job] and I'm MUCH happier.

Janna -- I love your turning point story! It is really great that you had the courage to be happy. So many people would be afraid of the loss of status or money. It looks like you are wise and brave. On top of everything, you get to be around books all day at work! I love books--Barnes and Noble is my dream home ( ... )
