I've not had my appendix out, although my brother did when he was little. But I have had three operations where I've had endometerosis burnt off by lazer and an operation on my abdomen that lasted 6 hours that started off for endometerosis but they ended up removing a tumour.
They give you the anaethetic and you can't even count to three and then you are wake with a pressure bandage on your stomach. Yes, there is a little discomfort but they give you pain killers. you may also still be on a drip for medication and there may be a tube coming out of your tummy as a drain but it is nothing to be scared of and won't be uncomfortable.
The nurses and the anaethesist are always very kind and if you tell them you are scared they will hold your hand. They let me take my teddy (even though I was an elderly 25 at the time) as far as pre-op, but becasue of hygeine they took him away but in a labelled back and he was there when I woke up.
I was terrified and jept crying on the way down, but really, it was no where near as frightening as I thought. the side effects of the antibiotics they put me on afterwards turned out to be far worse, but that won't happen to you, it was because they hadn't planned on bowel surgery so hadn't prepped me.
