I was driving my girls to swimming lessons yesterday and I came across something that bothered me greatly.
I don't mind people that picket for their beliefs. I'm not a picketer myself, but there is something about someone believing deeply enough to go out and hold a sign that makes me appreciate what they are doing. I don't even have to believe in their cause.
I will usually give a little honk or a wave to let them know the at least someone is reading their signs. I say usually because some causes I will not acknowledge. Fred Phelps is a no honker....anything having to do with hate is out in my book. I will not honk for Nazis but to be honest I've never seen either of these groups. I'm sure there are other things that I will not honk for but as long as they are peaceful, showing love and respect to others and not blocking traffic, I'll honk.
So yesterday we were driving to swimming lessons and we passed a building that is a Planned Parenthood Clinic. I had never noticed it before but there were 4 picketers outside of the building. The first two held signs that say something like, "Think Twice" or "Planned Parenthood lies". They had pictures of cute little babies smiling. I rolled down my window, ready to give a little wave (honking would have been a problem in the traffic) and then I saw the other two signs. These were graphic pictures of aborted babies...full color...ripped apart and dead. These pictures were as big as I am tall. It took me a few seconds to figure out what it was. I was not expecting that...and neither were my 5 year old and 9 year old. I told them to turn away.
I understand. I am pro-life. I think this is wrong. My girls do not need to be exposed to that and it was for everyone to see. Their target audience as well as my little girls.
I don't think this is loving the person that feels they have no choice but to abort. I'm not willing to get into a discussion about abortion or if it is right or wrong or if choice is good or pro-life is good but I want to know what you think about this type of graphic image being displayed for everyone to see.
If you are Pro-life, do you think that we can do this for the greater good? The means justifying the end sort of thing? How far is too far? Is this truly showing love?
