The DLR Challenge

Jul 16, 2008 19:09

So the PTS challenged me yesterday to crossing off the map for both DCA and Disneyland. That means riding every attraction and entering/touching every foods location (which actually includes the Westward Ho fry wagon in Frontierland).

Unfortunately, this challenge was issued at 9:30 as we were entering DCA to go on the Toy Story Midway Mania. Though we put in a valiant effort, we fell 7 attractions short. (Nemo, Autopia, and a handful of Fantasyland attractions.) That does mean, however, that we went on 20 attractions in DCA, 33 attractions in DL, and ran around touching various signage/doors/counters/windows/podiums/tables for shows, food locations, and other events.

We managed to get one meal in, though, while we were waiting for the Mark Twain to come back around the river. Well, to be exact, we ate half the meal on land and then ate the rest of the meal on the riverboat. The rest of our food consisted of Ritz Crisps consumed on the Omnibus and then later on Pirates of the Caribbean. I also had apples in line for Mania (my breakfast) and a Chewy bar on the Sun Wheel.

As a result, today I am less than my normal hale, hearty self. In fact, I woke up feeling as if I'd been beaten up.

Because this challenge was impromptu, I was not equipped with the proper footwear. I had on my normal park shoes - Rainbows. They have the advantage of being able to get wet on water rides without the discomfort of walking around with wet socks, with the added bonus of being less hot in the summer weather. Unfortunately, Rainbows have almost no arch support whatsoever, and the blister tolerance, though high, is not insurmountable. So today, my knees and hips are feeling geriatric, I have quarter sized blisters under the thick skin of the balls of my feet, and I'm trying to walk without flexing my feet at all to avoid cramping.

My shins and calves were swollen and tingly when I get home last night, so I was surprised that they aren't sore today. But that may have something to do with the fact that I popped Advil and iced them before I went to bed and then slept with my legs elevated.

My only other real complaint is that odd muscles in my torso object if I move in certain ways. I'm pretty sure that is from when we hit that huge bump on Grizzly River Run. I slammed so hard into the guy next to me my glasses fell off and my first thought was "shoulder dislocation and concussion."

Surprisingly, the only bruise I noticed so far is from the seatbelt on Indy. I walked into so many things yesterday I expected more.

At the end of the night, as I was dragging myself out of the car, the only thing I could think of was whether PTS and I should try again next week or if I should wait until after August 17th so Chris and I can do it.

If we make sure to get there at 8...and wear proper footwear...and take advantage of the Fastpass and Single Rider resources...

We could do it.

It could work.
