oh my god i can't believe i'm awake

why can i not believe i'm awake?

first off, i finished harry potter.  i hadn't planned on reading it yesterday, but i did.  t. and i went to a midnight release party in between our houses (well, between our parent's house's) and didn't get our books until 12:45.  I began reading at 1.  I went to sleep around 4:45.  I was awoken at 10 am when my grandmother called and asked, "So...do you have your book already?"  i read until 12:15, and then went to my other grandma's house for lunch, and then finished another 75 pages.  i came home, and cleaned for the party (more on that in a bit), read, did more party set up, and finished the book just before 6pm.  Even with all the distractions.

In general, I enjoyed it a lot.  JKR had me crying from the beginning with Hedwig dying right off the bat.  And then I proceeded to cry for the rest of the book.  Part of that was because of the fact that there were SO MANY DEATHS (but ... it was war, of course there were going to be deaths!), and part of it was because i kept thinking, "Oh my god, this is the last time I'll have a Harry Potter book to stay up ill-advisedly late reading for the first time"   But then Fred died, and then Lupin and Tonks kind of just died off camera in a completely lame way?  And the odd swearing by Mrs. Weasley when she killed Bellatrix.  the part that bothered me the most was the epilogue.  it just seemed really really cornball.  it almost reminded me of the feeling that i get watching the end of the chamber of secrets movie with all of that hugging and ... it was just odd.  And I think Albus Severus is the most awful name to give a child, especially when it's no the first child, and the other two have relatively normal first names.  Seriously Harry.  Kid is going to get beat up at Hogwarts, no matter WHICH house he's in.
And then...then we had a birthday party.  It was about 6 kinds of crazy.  I'm guessing we had 30-40 people show up.  We had a keg.  We had non-beer alcohol.  We had a beer pong table and a flip cup table (the other two birthday girls just graduated college, and this is what their friends do).  Of course, I shouldn't say, "This is what other people do" since t. will testify to the fact that I played beer pong (and won at least one game with my sister as a teammate), played flip cup (which she played too), and ... did a kegstand?  i don't know how much i drank.  i don't want to THINK about how much i drank.  at this point, i feel like if you tried to wring me out like a sponge...you'd get beer or something.  there were also ill-advised shots of jack at...3:30 am?  We played guitar hero, and card games, and i also thought it would be smart to light off sparklers (at least they were not firecrackers).  i kind of made out with a random cute boy (this is the telltale sign that i was REALLY drunk).

but i'm paying for it now.  i've been hungover before, but i  never woke up feeling almost still drunk.  but we went out for breakfast at the little diner-type place in town, and i really could have used more juice or water or something.  but i have about 3 hours to sober up completely - i have a family event at 4pm in maryland, and i've been told that i'm driving.

and then i leave on the road trip of massiveness tomorrow around 8 am.  That should be interesting.  Something tells me I'll be going to bed early tonight.  Or...not.  Chances are that this is the last time I check in for about three weeks until I get back from Phoenix.  So...I'll catch you on the flip side.

harry potter, drunk, friends
