Pre-night out update

I think it says something that just going out for a few drinks with friends is occasion enough for me to actually make a big deal out of. Still, I'm looking forward to tonight.

I didn't do a single thing for Halloween yesterday. More than any other holiday, this is the one that always makes me feel miserable with myself. Not unhappy necessarily, but for years and years now I've not done anything for it, and always feel like one of those miserable people who hates holidays. I don't: I love Halloween and it's a night that every year I feel I should make a big deal of, yet I constantly miss out on the fun. I'm asserting right now, that next year will be different. I'll dress up, have fun, everything. Yup!

billandjo, I've finally seen a Brian De Palma movie! I watched Carlito's Way, and really enjoyed it. One of the best gangster movies I've seen.

Every time I mention that I enjoyed a certain gangster movie, everyone tells me that I have to see Goodfellas. I really need to see it. It's on my DVD list. :)

Speaking of... rather than stop, the postal workers strike has got bigger. I hope this nonsense sorts itself out soon, I can't be without DVDs for much longer, while still paying the freakin' subscription!

Last movie I saw in the cinema was In America, which is a really good movie about an Irish family moving to America to start a new life after the death of their son/brother. It's the only movie I can think of that truly deals with how children cope with losing their brother, though the entire family's reaction is dealt with. But really, the performances from the two child actors were the best performances from children that I've ever seen in a movie - they really were outstanding, and I'd highly recommend the movie on those grounds alone. But the whole story was very emotional, and touching, and told with a lot of heart. Well worth seeing.

I watched the pilot episode of The O.C. last night. Really, really enjoyed it. All of the characters interest me though of course I have my favourites as well, and I care about how they'll develop as the show continues, which is always a good sign after just one episode. Looking forward to seeing more of this!

My SkyPlus 'hard drive' is full... I have like 7 movies I need to watch, as well as a few TV shows. I'm going to give John Doe a go, catch up with what I've missed from Charmed of late, and continue my Gilmore Girls viewing tomorrow. That's not to mention the ANGEL (5x05) and Joan Of Arcadia pilot, *and* Tru Calling pilot that are waiting for me to watch. Tomorrow afternoon is going to be ever so slightly TV-filled.

That works out well, since Sunday is the day my brother is home from work and goes online. Beta scrolling is practically all I've done lately. Certainly I've done over 20 hours worth of it in the last few days. And I've run into the 5x05 black spaces, so I've done as much as I possibly could have done today. Feels like it's been a fairly productive day, though clearly I have an odd scale on which I base productiveness! :)

I finally listened to the Calexico album, Feast Of Wire all the way through. HumVee at the Beta got me into them, and I'm glad of it - since I really like the album. It had been sitting there for a while without me having given it a full listen to. Hard to describe, and to think of any bands similar (so I don't really know *how* to recommend this one!) Still, worth a listen!

Pretty much done I think.

But most importantly, and because I think it's tomorrow in New Zealand now...

Happy Birthday Tenik!!!!
