I decided last week to finally get back on my bike and resume my two-wheeled commute to work. My beloved was a tremendous help getting my bike tuned up, cleaned and ready for the season. I picked up new shoes and pedals, switching from the racing kind to the more commuter friendly mountain bike kind. Took it easy the first day, hesitated to do a second day (humidex of 34) but a lovingly placed kick in the butt from Obi did the trick and I got it done. I realized I tend to be hard on myself with high expectations of performance (read: fast, hard-paced ride every time) and that these expectations had become roadblocks to my motivation and enjoyment. I’ve decided to be kinder to myself this year, do the hard workout ride in the morning when it’s relatively cool, and then take things more leisurely on the way home when it tends to be 30º+. This should help keep me on track, riding four times a week, and facilitate the desired weight loss as a result. Stylin’ new shorts and shirts go a long way too :-)
Got in another round of nine over the weekend and was a little frustrated with several bad shots. However, I am in the process of improving my swing, which has changed how I do things, so inconsistency should be expected at this point. But the new swing is definitely adding more distance, and it’s those really good shots that keep me coming back. Just means more practice (joy!). Big thanks to D.O. for toughing it out in the rain with me! Need to look for a golf rain jacket - hmmm, shopping (more joy!).
Obi had a busy weekend with 501st activities, a great group of people who helped raise $1,100 for a couple of charities this month. Saw the new Pirates movie, which was okay but overly long with a convoluted plot. Spent time with friends, puttered in my garden, and most importantly celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary with the love of my life (smootch!).
It was a good weekend.
