... that the end of summer is coming way too quickly.
It's been a good one so far. Obi and I took two weeks off at the end of July to travel up to good ol' TBay to attend my brother's wedding. Had a great time with family and the new extended family, making it more difficult to leave every time I visit. Thoughts of possible yet missed opportunities since we live so far away. Not that I'm entertaining any thoughts of moving back to TBay, just missing the closeness of family.
Golf has become my latest obsession, something I was able to enjoy with mum while in TBay. I've inherited my mum's old clubs and pull cart, and was given an old golf bag by a friend. Obi and I have had a great time getting out to the courses in the area, and have been making an effort to get out about once a week. Sometimes it's a bloody frustrating game, and then you have a just fabulous shot that keeps you coming back for more.
July was an insanely hot month, so didn't get out much for running or biking. Things have cooled off lately, and I managed to bike in to work every day last week. Yay me! I'm making an effort to continue the trend, but it's not easy. The "I don't wanna" committee in my head has been making itself heard, and today errands-on-the-way-home won out. Gotta get the eating habits under control again too, the vacation in TBay didn't help and added an inch to the waistline. I hate it when my clothes get tight!! Pass the water...
Very much looking forward to the coming weekend to be spent out at a cottage with hubby and good friends. I anticipate it'll feel like a last hooray for summer, but I plan to make the most of it! Obi and I had to cook up a story for his work just so he can use up some vacation time, and hopefully it doesn't come back to bite us in the butt. Story pitched (complete fiction): daughter of 1st cousin who I'm close to and lives in southern Illinois, died in a car accident, we are driving the 17 hours to attend funeral on Saturday - do you think they'll buy it? I do have a 1st cousin with a daughter who lives in southern Illinois, but everyone is fine. Needless to say, Obi's search for improved employment continues.
Work has been good as I continue to learn the ropes of my new position. June and July were insanely busy with our latest study, I accumulated 5 days of time in lieu during those 2 months. It'll be quiet for the next month or 2, and then it'll get crazy again with another big study. Certain aspects of my job I've started to dislike (booking travel & hotels is not my favorite thing), while other parts I really love (problem solving). I've started to give some thought to my career and am entertaining the prospect of going back to school for a Masters in Health Administration. I plan to get my feet wet first with a course or 2 before completely committing myself, and the need for a new furnace at home takes financial priority before I get started. Okay, well actually a mid-winter trip south takes priority, but at least I've got my priorities straight :-)
So as the summer wanes, I plan to enjoy the warm days while they last, making the most of it with golf club firmly in hand.
