Blurgh. Also JSR.

So hey LJ. What's goin' in.

Okay, so...in my second-to-recent LJ post, I made a passing comment that the month leading up to aforementioned post had not been kind to me.

That was a drop in the goddamn bucket for what came afterwards. I don't really want to air my dirty laundry in public, but it drew my attention away from LJ for a good long while.

So here I am after over eight months later, shaking off the dust and bringing a news post to the lot of you in case you haven't heard.

There's this game from a while back, like back in 2000. Some of you might have heard of it. Just a little thing. Nothing major. It was called JET SET RADIO.

This underground gem, this cult classic, was hella-influential on the gaming industry back in the day. JSR was the first video game to utilize the cel-shading visual style, a concept that spread like goddamn wildfire, kicking off what I like to call The Cel-Shading Madness era of gaming. Following JSR, everything had to be cel-shaded, from the most terrible licensed Mario Kart rip-offs, to the understung epics like Tales of Symphonia, to Legend of goddamn Zelda. EVERYTHING for the next four or five years needed to be cel-shaded. And while the fad has passed, there are still games being released today that use cel-shading, like Street Fighter IV. It's heavy stuff.

It's also my favorite game of all time, and I know versipellis loves it as well.

So it's actually kind of cool that Jet Set Radio is getting re-released on XBox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network.

That's right, I said it.

Figured I'd spread the love. :)
