so far this weekend has been excellent
fell asleep friday night watching Fellowship of the Rings. Now that I own that movie I don't think I'll ever watch it all the way through. I've fallen asleep twice attempting it.
got up early yesterday to hang out with Clint. We went to Buddy's Truck Stop diner which is the best greasy spoon to eat at in all of Boston. I think Serge discovered this place when he was working the night shift at Brooks Pharmacy. He would take his lunch breaks at like 6AM, and Buddy's is only open from 5AM to 2PM making it very convenient for the Serge-Man. I'm not sure I want to admit it, but I enjoyed my first cup of coffee ever. Man, I hate coffee. I guess there was just the right amount of cream and sugar in it. I actually wanted to keep drinking it. it baffled me.
after breakfast we drove up to the Salvation Army on route one. I think it's in Saugus or something. Anyhow, we got to drive by all the ridiculous restaurants up there:
the restaurant made out of a real ship
the leaning tower of Pizza place with the huge tower! I really want to eat there.
Wei-Lu's (sp?), which used to be like a theme park disguised as a Chinese restaurant but has been closed for like ten years. The place is gigantic though, and the building is still there
Kao Loon's (sp?) which is supposed to be the last real Tiki bar in Mass.
the dinosaur putt-putt golf place
Big Dog - my favorite sleazy sports bar where Marie and I go to play air hockey.
there are more but I can't think of them.
at the Salvy I bought a few records
the Purple Rain soundtrack
Django by the Modern Jazz Quartet
Madman Across the Water by Elton John
The Southern Cannonball by Hank Snow
last week I also bought many records after my dentist appointment - some Gen X-er from the late 80s had deposited their record collection at the St Vincent's in Stoughton
Fine Young Cannibals - the Raw and the Cooked
Crowded House - S/T
Susan Vega - Solitude Standing
Jim Carroll Band - Catholic Boy
Psychedellic Furs - Forever Now
speaking of the dentist, I'm having my wisdom teeth taken out on Friday - just days away from Serge Pinsky. we almost picked the same day!
After the Salvy we went to this dollar store which was supposed to be really good, but turned out to just be a bigger than average dollar store. I wasn't very impressed. We did find some CDs there though - a Tribute to KMFDM, a tribute to Elvis with Lemmy from Motorhead singing, the drummer from the Stray Cats, and Johnny Ramone playing guitar. very weird. Howard Jones' new album! (well, it was released in 2000) which is rad because he put together a whole band instead of just his keyboards and it kinda sounds like Men At Work playing Howard Jones songs which is awesome because I LOVE MEN AT WORK. I also bought "the greatest synthesizer hits" which turned out to be like elevator music versions of really good synth songs (Kraftwerk, OMD, etc, etc) and some grunge band from the early 90s which looked neat because their song titles were ridiculous.
we then ended up at the mall which was gross, but I had to go to the Army/Navy surplus store to buy wool socks and long-johns. I tried a whole bunch of places and nobody had either of those. They had these black military vests there that look bad-ass, and I'm thinking about buying one. Clint wanted to buy a bullet-proof vest (or a replica of one) but they didn't have it. I grabbed my stuff and we went on our way. The life force had almost been sucked out of us by the mall.
we had wrestling practice around 7:00 and lots of people showed up! apparently the ads we've put out there have worked really well - we now have like 6 new wrestlers who all seem really excited about doing everything. Now we just need a new guitar player for the band, and we're all set to do shows again. I was afraid the wrestling group was going to fall apart after Kayt left, and we lost a few other wrestlers. call me Andy Kaufman.
after the wrestling I walked down to the Manray and met up with Clint again - lots of people showed up. Marie, Ashley, Jesse, Cyndi, Corina, Chris, Ed, and Jen, who works at the Army/Navy store that we were at earlier in the day. Of course, she knows Marie. It's too small of a world.
everybody was hyped up like CRAZY. Clint and I were punching each other and bouncing off of people. It was the most fun time I've had there, possibly ever.
p.s. I miss you too Serge Pinsky
