There has been something major that has happened in my life just recently, and I would like to let you know what happened and that I am okay.

Monday night at midnight I was admitted to Del Sol Medical Hospital for severe chest pains and breathing complications. This is how it happened.

Monday 10-17-2005 @ 11:03pm I was paged out to a fully engulfed house fire with my fire department. I was on the first truck onscene. We were told to go into the fire dry (which means to go in without catching a hydrant).

2 crew members jumped on the Attack Line and started fighting the fire. I was told to be 3rd man on the line, when I started to grab the line, my Captain pulled me off and told me to hook a hydrant. So I went to the back of the truck to pull off some supply line.

When I got to the back of the truck I had some difficulty pulling off the supply because I was too short (yes haha, make your short jokes now) and because it was packed in so tightly I couldnt get it undone. So my Asst. Chief jumps on top of the pumper and starts throwing down the supply line to me.

Then, I realize that the supply line didnt have a hydrant wrench packed with it, so I ran to my tanker, grabbed the hydrant wrench, grabbed the supply line and took off running toward the hydrant.

When I got to the hydrant, I couldnt get the cap on either side off of the hydrant. My Asst. Chief attempted it, he couldnt do it, then a 3rd man (one of the biggest men in the dept.) tried without luck. Then we realized that the hydrant was already on. So all the back pressure wouldnt let us open the hydrant. After correcting the error, they hook up the hose but didnt turn on the hydrant. So I tried to turn it on. It was extremely difficult, and I had to put the weight of my entire body into it to get it to turn.

After the hydrant was on I felt like I was having a panic attack. So one of the guys started taking off my scott pack and bunker gear. Then out of no where my chest started hurting then it completely tightened up to the point where I couldnt move. I couldnt move my arms. Next thing I know I am being taken away on a stretcher to Del Sol.

At the hospital, they hooked me up to an IV, I had a CT Scan, I had EKG's every 8 hours, blood work taken every hour, I had respitory treatments every 2 hours, I had ultrasounds done on my heart, I was pumped full of stereoids, pain killers, and god knows what else. I had 2 shots in my stomach, 3 in my back, and had blood drawn over 24 times. (I counted all my holes and ruptured veins)

They think I have "Tietze Syndrome" which is a rare sydrome that will cause the cartilage around my heart to constrict and sqeeze my heart. They dont know how I got it, what causes it, what onsets it (what causes it to enflame) or how it can be cured, as of right now, there isnt one. I am on lots of pain killers, and anti-inflamitory med's. But I should be okay.

They have me out of work for awhile, and I have LOTS of restrictions. I did however make the news, on Channel 7 I was a female, but I was never taken to the hospital, Channel 9 I was a male that was taken to a hospital, and Channel 14 I was taken to an "undisclosed" location..

But I am back at home right now, doing alot of nothing waiting for the restrictions to be lifted so I can go back to normal.

Tia
